would a book let you visit them to pick up $??
would a top book like betjm allow you to go pick up 20-30k in cash from them?
if so, the only problem would be risking getting caught taking it in to the USA
does anyone know anything about this?
has it been done?

The government doesn't generally require US citizens to pass through Customs when returning with make-believe money picked up on pretend trips to Costa Rica.

the thing that sucks is that the money goes through the x-ray. they will see it.
i read the customs web page and you have to declare it by filling out a form, then they later determine if you owe tax...whatever sense that makes.

Let's see, if my name was Javier and I worked at a book in Costa Rica making $2 an hour, and one of my friends working at the same book told me about this idiot gringo who was coming to the office to pick up $20,000 in cash, I would be VERY interested in finding out from my friend what time the idiot gringo was coming, who is he meeting with, where is he staying, what airline is he flying in on, etc. Then I would get two or three of my friends to hang around outside the office around the time the idiot gringo is expected to arrive, and we would follow the idiot gringo a safe distance away from the office as he leaves with his cash, then we would rob the idiot and leave him for dead in some alley.
Now if the book I worked for gave the idiot a check drawn on the Costa Rican bank, we would use the same plan, only we would follow the idiot gringo from the bank instead of the office.
Dude, get a grip, you aren't flying to a third world country to get a five figure payout in cash and leaving said third world country alive.

I once brought back 14K in US cash from Vegas in 1998, no x-ray machine for me, just the metal detector, no problem at all.
I should mention that it was mostly 100's, had I taken the cash in quarters I might not have made it, you know, with the metal detector thing.

Whether you fill out the form or not, the crooks in the government will find some pretext to steal your money.
So, you guys have never heard of banks? Why in the **** would you be carrying that kind of cash around ANYWHERE, especially in an airport, that is just idiotic.

So, while you are on this fantasy world trip to costa rica to pick up your check you go to the bank that issued it, cash the check, then purchase money orders made payable to yourself.
If the check is bad you go back to the book, this time with a Bren or some equally loud fully automatic weapon and shoot the place up and demand your ****ing money.
Or, you open a bank account at a bank that has United States branches also, and you deposit the money in your new account.
This isn't rocket science.

The American dollar is probably used to some extent in CR, they do have their own Colone ( or something like that), but I doubt books would have large quantities of US currency available, or be able to get it with ease.
I believe Panama does use USD exclusively, Jamaica has its own currency ( Eastern Caribbean dollar ?), so they won't have USD available. The security factor alone is enough reason not to attempt it.
