Default OT: getting stain off a deck

my brother just called me and needs my help tomorrow. he recently bought a patio home and he started staining his deck, he said the developer told him he has to take it off, that the wood has to stay natural so that everything is uniform. he said he got some stripper and put it on and then tried using a pressure washer, but the pressure washer was eating into the wood, even on a low setting. he said luckily he hadn't finished but about a 1/4 of the deck. i told him i was going to bring my sander over tomorrow and will try to lightly sand it off maybe. any suggestions?

Go to Home Depot and rent a walking orbital floor sander, 24"-36" depending on how strong you feel that day. You will have to sand the entire deck, not just the stained area. If you dont its going to have a different look and feel where you stained/sanded. The longer you wait the deeper the stain is going to sink into the wood.

Other than that, the pressure washer is the only other way I know of to go. They make tips just for removing stain, you should buy one of those, and again you will need to do the whole deck to keep it uniform looking.

    Good luck with it.

careful, sanding will weaken the strength of the nailheads.
