Default Are any Touts worthwhile?

Are any of them any good or are you better off just picking on your own? They claim great percentages, but what is the reality?

Like in anything, there are some who are honest and are very good and others who are questionable, and still others who are total frauds.

It's bad enough losing on your own picks. When you lose on someone else's picks that you paid for it's much worse.

tout's are completely useless. if they were that good they would play their own picks.

sometimes they will give out 2 sides of a game so they "guarantee" winners....

they all have fake names.

IMO, they are scams

So you know the win-loss record of every tout out there? Yes, there are some that are scams and are useless. There are also some who are good.

Touts write to me sometimes because I have my email address posted in the forum at several places. I tell them all the same thing..."send me picks for two weeks, if you have a winning record after two weeks I will do some business with you". Some I never hear from again, some send picks that are net losers, one or two gave me picks that were net winners. I follow one pick service that is very good, but expensive.

So, what you say is not correct.

you contribute their records to beign "good", as opposed to odds? odds say some win in the LT, just like any other gambler...

i don't think it's worth it to pay for picks, and i think most people agree with me.

I don't know what you are talking about. If a tout gives me games that I would not have normally bet on and betting on those games shows a profit that covers all expenses including the cost of the picks, then that is good. I have made money using pick services. I don't really care whether other people think it is a good idea or not. I can't handicap everything, I found one pick service that specializes in big dogs, I don't usually bet big dogs, but I have made money with this guy. I found another service that specializes in college football. They send me picks on teams I don't follow, I have made money with those picks.

So, your statement that all touts are worthless is not correct. What you should say is that you personally have not made any money using touts. I have made money using them, but I am selective and I only want pick services that specialize in something I don't have time to handicap myself. I have dropped one or two pick services because most of their picks were teams I was already on.

Absolutely. You are telling me you have time to handicap everything?

If by "tout" you mean a pick service that a subscriber has to pay for, and the picks given out to paid members are not given out for free anywhere, then yes. If you mean someone who gives away "free" picks, then no, I don't bet free picks.

curious - i see what you are saying, but i still disagree...

if i didn't have a feel on a game, i'd rather not play it, as opposed to taking a tout's pick.

most of these games are a toss up anyways, the real way to make money is to watch line moves and what not. IMO, opening lines are sharp on 99/100 games, easy.

lol...good point...

i'm sure some touts get paid by books to give certain picks. another huge reason not to use a tout.

My maximum bet is $4000, I make one or two max bets per month. My minimum bet is $100. I would guess my "average" bet is $400. I usually make 5-8 bets per day. I make one or two $1000 or $2000 bets a week.

I am not finished handicapping Sunday's NFL yet, I am waiting on information that won't be avialable till tomorrow.

I doubt that I am my book's best friend, I am up tons this year.

This is the stupidest thing I ever read. A pick service lives and dies on their win %, if they gave out picks on purpose that they knew would lose, their win % would suffer and they would lose all their customers. That would be really smart. But then the book would have to know that the game was going to lose ahead of time, which they wouldn't know, so your accusation doesn't make any sense.

I didn't say it was inside info. You said that. I said the information isn't available till tomorrow, because the information is useless if you don't get it right before game time. But the information is public information I guess.

And, I have no way of knowing if NFL games are fixed. And anyone who says they do know hat NFL games are fixed is lying. Because if they did know that they would bet on the fixed games and would not make that information public.

Stuff from coaches? What do you think that I am in the CIA? LOL Injury reports mostly. Starting players if it is available. Sometimes the list of starters is available, sometimes not. And sometimes they lie. LOL

So it's best to make all your bets just prior to game time so you have all the info? I'm just trying to figure out why you wait until the last second on all your bets.

He's a professional gambler, who two weeks ago thought it was best to buy across the 3 or 7 in EVERY game, no matter what the price.

He's learned a lot here in two weeks.

there is no hard and fast rule, it depends on how important the injury report is.

I don't play the NFL very much early in the season. The few games I am looking at tomorrow are dogs, I usually bet dogs right before the game. These particular games will be influenced by whether or not certain players are starting or are still out.

I don't always do that. Sometimes I bet games as soon as the line opens, if I think the line at the open is the best line I'm likely to get.

For teams that have a lot of depth I don't worry too much about who's playing unless it is a key player like the QB.

I bet all of my picks on today's college football games early this morning, then went out and had fun with my girl.

Well, I never said "no matter what the price". What I actually said was, "how do you determine the value of buying a 1/2 point to get OFF of 3 and 7, to -2 1/2 or +3 1/2 and -6 1/2 or 7 1/2. And I wasn't asking for an opinion, I was asking if anyone had the math on this. So, the way you misquote what I actually said you make me sound like a total retard, which of course is your goal.

If you are going to try to discredit me by quoting me, you might want to at least quote me accurately.

Do the math.

How much do you expect the touts to win you?

How much do they charge?

They are different prices. One service I use cost $395, I made that back the first bet. They give me 5-6 big dogs a week, every week. I guess they win about 50% of their picks, but since their picks are big dogs the money returned is more.

Another service I use costs $6000 a year. I made that back the first month. I'm up tons with their picks. 6 times that amount so far.

Another service I use charges a % of the win amount. I settle up with them once a week. They are good for a couple of K a week.
