Default Woman wins $42 million on slot machine...or not.

    http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?sec...ide&id=7357317

The woman playing a slot machine at the Fortune Valley Casino in Central City, Colorado hit the jackpot for $42 million. She and those nearby went wild.

"There was a bunch of people coming up to and hugging me saying, 'You won $42,000?' and some said, 'No, you won $42 million.' I'm like, 'Oh, my God!'" said Fortune Valley visitor Louise Chavez.

Those good vibes didn't last long. The casino told Chavez the machine malfunctioned and it refused to pay.

Instead the casino gave her a free room for the night, bought her breakfast and gave her $23, the amount she says she had put into the machine. The Colorado Division of Gaming is now investigating.

    --------------
So, do you think they will end up having to pay her any more?

They know it will take a huge chunk of earnings from the casino. Thus raises the argument ,of why did the casino comp her if she never really won anything in the first place.

If they dont pay, they should be shut down. If it was 42mil, they probably would rather be shut down. Just like a lot of books out there, want the player's money, but dont want to pay the player.

Typical reaction by the casino. If I was that lady I would have taken a picture of the machine with my cellphone get as many witnesses and take that casino down for as much as they will cough up. Lawyer up bigtime and they unleash some green, it may not be 42 mil, but its better than a fricken ice pick in the eye. Because that is what casinos are in the business to do. Pick your pocket and ice pick you while you look for your wallet.

Just imagine some of the plans she was probably making with the winnings! Pissed wouldn't have even fit into my feelings.

Jackpots that large are always part of a group - machines throughout the state or country with a mutual pool, such as Wheel of Fortune.
Casinos lease these machines, they don't own them.
The jackpot when won is then paid by the manufacturer.
It's great publicity for a casino when a jackpot this large is hit, and the casino loses nothing.
It's obviously a lot of negative pr for a casino when something like this case occurs.

As far as the malfunction, there have been a number of cases like this which have gone to court. I believe the manufacturer has always won.

Nativediver - "If I was that lady I would have taken a picture of the machine with my cellphone get as many witnesses.."

    This is good advice.

Nativediver - "...and take that casino down for as much as they will cough up. Lawyer up bigtime and they unleash some green, it may not be 42 mil, but its better than a fricken ice pick in the eye."

Hopefully the casino will pay out something more than $23 if she takes them to court in order to shut her up and stop the bad pr.
It won't be even 10% of that jackpot amount, though.
She may be able to get about 1% of that amount, and her contingency lawyer will get 1/3 to 1/2 of that.

Those dirtbags better take care of her or they will lose a ton of business. Kinda like BetPhoenix losing business because they gave long time loyal customers the shaft.

Yes if the casino can say the machine malfunctioned when somebody wins then players have to get the right to say it malfunctioned if they lose......

Casino will get a lot of negative publicity for this. It's amazing because there have been a few stories like this. Would of been great publicity for the casino to say the big $42 million winner won here! How do they know it was malfunctioned right away?
