    Subject: Issues with your Website

    Hi,

I was hoping somebody from your offices can address these site issues others seem to be having.

    Bodog Down?

I live in the states and the website seems to be working fine for me. However, for others outside the U.S.A. there seems to be some issues logging on to your site.

If you would please address this matter when you at your convenince.

    Regards,

    Dan

This is a widespread issue. The volume is way down so many people can't get on.

In fact I can't get on now. (living in Mexico)

Live in Pennsylvania. I couldn't get on for about
three hours but I just got on about 25 minutes ago.
This is odd for Bodog, isn't it?

Well, I got tired of waiting on Bodog to either email me back or post something here. So what I did was call them, and they told me they were having router issues today.

    From: http://www.newbodog.com/about/why-newbodog-com.jsp

    Why the newbodog.com?

Welcome to the new (temporary) Bodog. As you may know by now, Bodog.com is experiencing a technical issue impacting our players' ability to access our website.

This is the result of a legal dispute over the ownership of the Bodog.com domain name. We are fighting this dispute. We are confident that we will win, but until all is settled, I do not want our battle to interrupt your play.

We are working to resolve any remaining issues on the temporary site as soon as possible, and fully expect to have our original site back up shortly.

This is an argument that's being made on some other forums...

How do you fight a legal dispute over a domain name if you are trying to fight it in the US? You can't be a criminal organization involved in illegal online betting in the US and then come into a US court and ask that the domain name through which you carry out those crimes be ruled valid and your property.

Anybody know where all this domain name registration is centered legally?

Domain name disputes are no longer under the jurisdiction of any US entity. ICANN - Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is the international organization responsible for overseeing domain name related cases. From the ICANN website:

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is an internationally organized, non-profit corporation that has responsibility for Internet Protocol (IP) address space allocation, protocol identifier assignment, generic (gTLD) and country code (ccTLD) Top-Level Domain name system management, and root server system management functions. These services were originally performed under U.S. Government contract by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and other entities. ICANN now performs the IANA function. more >

I haven't been able to use Bodog since yesterday afternoon. Pisses me off because I couldn't get my bets in....3-0 parlayed! Of course, for me, this would only happen when the site is down.

The question is, where are disputes resolved? If the guy claiming the domain name lives in the US, or wants to get a judgement from a US court saying he owns the name, he is perfectly free to do so and ICANN will respect that judgement. It is national courts which resolve these disputes. ICANN has no court of its own.

This might be a glitch involving renewal. If you don't renew on time, anyone can jump in and claim it. However, hard to believe a billion-dollar company would forget to renew its domain.

Otherwise, if they already had the domain, which they did, I don't see how someone can claim it.
