I've actually always used this site myself. Will run a sample test now and share my connection speed. These numbers are somewhat skewed because I'm capped during the day with my cable provider, but right now I've got a lot of horsepower. Downloading 1GB from a good source, not some p2p BS, would only take 9-10 minutes.

NY (my area)

Download Speed: 30419 kbps (3802.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3044 kbps (380.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Los Angeles

Download Speed: 6640 kbps (830 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 720 kbps (90 KB/sec transfer rate)
