I know we have some UK posters here and I'd like to get your opinions on how this ban might affect you guys like the U.S. laws effected us here in the states.

Just how bad will this hurt the books over there in the future?

An advertising ban will only affect new books trying to get into the market,existing books shouldn`t have any problems.

I don't Vanman.

I feel that the kids of today might not start to gamble if it's not in from of them with the advertising. Sorta like the smoking bans nowadays, and that could fizzle out the shops over there over the long term.

you don`t need advertising here in the UK because when you walk down your local high street there are normally at least 3 bookmakers,so youngsters will be exposed to the temptation of gambling.

Regardless, UK books can continue to advertise, so can EU, Gibraltar, Isle of Man. It's just Costa Rica that have been banned at the moment for not meeting UK standards, Antigua's case is still being heard.

Gambling ads should be some how regulated. Much in the same way as smoking ads are.

Not at all , a number of the big UK books are/were licensed in unrecognised territories. Willam Hill, the biggest of these, has taken the expensive decision to relocate.
Costa Rica may well have been recognised but for some reason it chose not to apply.

What? think you need to read my post again.
The Uk decision has nothing to do with the Americans. It just isnt protectionism but sensible regulation.

OK. But for a country that runs a trade deficit of $60 billion dollars, I dont really think you could be serious with the comment "Protectionism is an American disease.".

I don't think I've ever commented on the subject.

It's well known that many Uk books will limit accounts if you're winning (or beating the closing number).

Ladbrokes and Hills have got a bit better recently, but the only place you'll get by untouched is Betfair. At betfair you can happily get down 5 or 6 figure sums on most major (European) sporting events.
