Lets debate how we should address very active posters
As most you know Players Talk is very busy and growing daily. Everyone has their own posting style which is great. One of those styles is to "power post" to the tune of 100’s of times a day. This style tends to dilute the less active posters and lessen their posting enjoyment. The vast majority of posters and SBR'ers agree something needs to be done.
I had an idea that they use for the stock market. A good while back I was notified that I was designated as a “day trader”. Its no big deal but there are certain things I can and can not do because of the designation. It kind of pissed me off at first but the rules are reasonable enough.
I was thinking maybe we should have a limit to how many posts and threads one could start in Players talk. It could be generous so it would not slow the vast majority down. Is this a good idea? How many posts should we allow a “power poster” to make in Players Talk a day? Like 60?? Less? More?

Why encourage "Power Posting" at all? At the end of the day it is just spam.
The points awarded for the 1000 post milestones are the cause of it, maybe changing this would be the way to go.

really depends if they're adding anything of substance or not. im sure you'd agree theres nothing wrong with a large number of posts if they're contributing. SBR is a good way to pass time. if people are posing 3-word responses or a smiley eating popcorn then thats when theres a problem.
lots of mods read through these threads- if someones abusing their posting privledges based on their discretion they should be issued a warning and if it increases they should be cut down to 20ppd. there should be a sticky thread started to warn people of this procedure change.

60 is a lot harder to get to than you think
I do not know though if limits are good if it is a great thread that requires lots of posts.
I could hinder a great debate

I think the point system for mass posting should be adjusted. I feel this is why there are "power Posters" now on the site. Maybe just take away milestone credits (1,000 etc) at least for now and I bet my bottom dollar it would adjust many of the posters habits.
It seems many are interested in points then quality posts.
Good luck with this one.....

I personally think 75 is a fair number in players talk.....if someone has the whole day free and want to spend it on SBR they could easily pound out hundreds (whatsgood5). 75 limits that, but personally I think it's still a decent number.

Great point but how many posts of substance can a guy make during a single day? I'm not sure but I'm sure its not in the hundreds.

you think this is bad...when the points first came out it was 15 points for every 50 posts. That was insane, you couldn't keep a thread on the first page for more than 10 minutes

ahh..dont do nothing
there is really only a handful of guys sick enough to shoot for that 1,000 milestone daily anyways
the newer ghost are not power posting at all..just a good luck or tip of the hat before disapating for 24 hours and making the nba forum less entertaining..you have guys really posting like lakerboy having conversations with guys who will never reply
25 points is a fair reward for 1,000 post..although I admit when i get to the 800s and can smell the finish line I too am guilty of some bull shit post
I noticed that bigdaddyohioH20 or something like that is a solid contributor who goes unappreciated

Another good point... But, we had this problem even before the points. Plus the vast majority of posters are not posting to get the what 20 points you get when you get to 1,000? But it is a good point just hope we do not have to penalize everyone to control the power posters.

It may be insane, but lets look at me for an example. I have been here a few years and only have 150 + posts. No reason to just post crap for no real reason. It is getting to the point that I do not read as many posts as I did in the past because most posts have no bearing on anything at all!!
This is a hard one to call but SOMETHING MUST be done to controll the amount of posts here each day.
GL to you on your plays today.

on the opposite spectrum are the points ghost with one bull shit post a day
check out post # 8 and #11 in this dunder loan thread
I dead freakin giveaway on a points ghost is a one post per day average of any poster signed up since October of last year..they grow like the blob daily and I wonder if one day it will overwhelm SBR..a simple solution would be requiring funded sportsbook accounts for privledged activities..the ghost would die by the thousands
Its harder and harder for ghost to borrow points..this one is dacvietbet, lachapellek, gambling family type character..book it!

I agree.
Get rid of the posting milestones.
Instead of giving someone 25 points for hitting a 2000 posts, try giving 25 points to someone who contributes a great thread. Allow mods to select 5-10 daily threads that were considered "valuable" to the PT and then award points.
I think it would increase the value of the threads created, or at least it would motivate guys to try and find some solid gambling topics to discuss.
Bottom line, it just makes more sense to give a guy 25 points for contributing a great thread than it is to give someone 25 points for hitting 2000 posts.

OK one quick point and I am out of the posting for the day.
How about MODs awarding extra points (except the 2 points for a daily log in) for posts that are deemed good posts. This will keep some of the unimportant posts from being placed on the site.
SBR can set the standards on what is a good post or just crap. This seems like a decent fix for the problem...EARN POINTS BY MERIT>>>>NOT BS!!
Good luck to all on your wagers for the day EVERYONE.

I'd recommend a weekly cap. I'd put the number at something relatively low, but I don't frequent this place as much as most of these other guys, so maybe I don't know the situation that well. I'd also say to replace the milestone points with something else.

I don't expect my response to be very popular and that is ok. We have the sub-forums for individual sports and other specific topics and then we have Players Talk which may or may not have been created originally for all to come together to talk about all sports in general or not. What it obviously became was the one area where everything sports and non-sports related woud all come together. Every forum has it's on variation of Players Talk regardless of what it's called. SBR's Players Talk forum is the single best forum anywhere out there and it is such because of the various posters that culminate here.
Personally there are posters in Players Talk that I don't agree with or even like. There are posters here that I refuse to read or respond to. There ABSOLUTELY are posters that flood the forum with useless threads and or contribute nothing to Players Talk but that is my personal opinion and one which others may not agree with.
What it comes down to is Players Talk is already the best and while we tend to always want to make something better sometimes we need to just let things be.
Just my opinion and in no way is meant to reflect or influence the opinions of others.

swaindexter, Martin,
I like it. Great idea. I guess I'm naive as f\*\*k because I cant imagine power posting a 1,000 times to get 25 points. But LOVEEE the idea of giving out points for great posts although it can be subjective. Must be way though to do it right.

I'd want regular posters to have a lot of say in merit points; maybe some points if one votes for a post/thread that wins merit points, coupled with a measure to prevent abuse.
Edit: I agree that 25 points is too little to rationally power post considering the trouble I've had sparking intelligent discussion the times I've tried, it doesn't surprise me that many would do it for that reason.

Thats why nothing has been done to date and of course your opinion is respected and appreciated. I think we need something to make sure we dont get a bunch of smiley face posters. We do not want good posters to see their stuff on page two minutes after they post because of a bunch of smiley face posts.

very much like this idea also but in the end it will be left up to the moderators' discretion. i trust them...i think most do even if they have a beef or have had their PMs cut off or something. there Should definitely be a build-in system for rewarding good and high quality posts- some people will feel passed-over but thats just how it goes.
