There were a few ghosts a while back stalking Bodog. I think the ghostbusters got them though.

If you or anyone else suspects a ghost PM a mod. The Bodog ghost is a tough one because he uses a dynamic IP address. We can unscramble those but we need to know the suspected posting handles before the ghostbusters are called in.

Onlooker is a moderator. I can assure you no mods do any ghosting. I did have a peak and they would need very long arms...different locations.

To be a good ghostbuster you need to look for similiar styles like misspelling the same word and length of posts. Also, a good giveaway is they many times post one after the other. Strange as it is, ghosts like to talk to themselves.

Go get'em ghost busters. I honestly dont think its a problem. But there are times in the very long threads its hard for the staff to identify the very clever ghosts.

sure thing johnny boy. All a ghost would do is create more traffic which is how you get paid. And after the neteller fall, I bet business dropped.

Well believe what you want. Sponsors measure traffic in signups. Ghosts dont signup. To me ghosts are a useless waste of our bandwidth.

As for your second part, yes Neteller and all the rest has hurt business. But we did fine well before Neteller and we will continue to as long we continue to improve and work hard at it. It certainly won't be because of some gimmick.

Fairly new here. Please explain what a 'ghost' is. From the posts it looks like it's just 2 user names for the same person. Is there more to it than that ? What benefit is it to the poster and why is it a bad thing for the forum? What am I missing?

( my user name might make some think I am a ghost -- any guesses?)

Yes a ghost is when one person has two or more screennames, so that that person can engineer complex and devilishly clever deceptions to achieve whatever ends he seeks to achieve.

For instance, I might make a ghost screenname/persona, perhaps make the character a friendly, amiable and good-natured but none-too-bright doofus, to congratulate me on my good picks and point out how well I'm doing to various people on the board. Then I, with my Ganchrow HG screenname, would coyly and fake-reluctantly acknowledge the encomium, presenting myself as someone who doesn't self-promote, but won't shy away from promotion if it is instigated by others (supposedly, get it?).

Then I might casually mention to all that I will now be selling my predictive insights to a lucky few, for an undisclosed amount per month, and perhaps even have the ghost screenname do a sort of semi-hard sell to various particulars I might see as uniquely vulnerable marks, say RickySteve or BlondeSurferDude. This is similar to the 3-card monte players on the street, where some of the "players" are actually in on the operation with the dealer, and encourage people passing on the street to take a crack at the game, unaware that the "players" who appear to be winning are part of the scam.

This is bad for a forum of course, because it degrades the integrity of the exchange of ideas. We lose money together, as a group, with an open and honest dialogue of foolish theory, statistical misinterpretation, and mathematical misunderstanding. Ghosts are just playing games and wasting time.
