Default Should the Super Bowl pick 6 have been called back for....

a block in the back on #91 Will Smith's block against Peyton Manning during the return. I had money on the Saints, but to me it was an obvious block in the back that should have been called.

This could have changed the outcome IMO. Did anyone else see this or think that it should have been called.

I did notice that on one replay I saw. I've seen flags thrown on less-harmless blocks than that . . . or not. I'm OK with however they had called it.

    doesnt matter now
saints won and not just because the refs missed a block in the back call

My money was on the saints, but still if that is called and the colts hold the saints, it is still a 7 pt game. Big difference.

And yes it could have changed the outcome.

Good chance, but I think the Colts still had all 3 time outs at that point.

I dont think they called it cause it was irrelevant.
Was peyton really gonna try and tackle him? Even if he did was he gonna get him in the open field when porter was at full speed??

He could have forced him to slow up, or back into the field. If it is part of the play and is a foul it should be called is all I am saying.

You are right sir. By the definition of the rule it was a block in the back.
I dont think they called it because peyton was looking to go down anyway. He wasnt gonna make a serious attempt to make that tackle. And I believe Porter cut back to the middle of the field anyway also contributing to the no call.
There was nobody within 5 yards of him at any point on that run. He was never gonna get caught.

I agree it would be hard for Manning to make the play, but if you are within a yard or so of the ball carrier and you are blocked in the back, I think it should be called regardless.

they don't call penalties in the Superbowl, it is just the way it is

Wouldn't matter Brees would have just killed the clock ad scores again. The colts had no answer.

Would have possibly given Manning a second chance if the Colts D made a stop. Who knows, then OT?

If they had called that the Td wouldn't have happened. If the block hdn't happened the TD wouldn't have happened. Why wasn't colts sideline raising hell? This isn't a pre-season game here, colts should have had that reviewed.

Three points. One, it was a block in the back that should have been called. Two, I don't think Manning is making the tackle without the illegal block. Three, you can't challange or review an illegal block in the back penalty.

Can't believe I missed that while it happened. Absolute bullshit

Yeah, it's not like the Colts had three timeouts or anything.

It should have been called but it is not called if a player turns his back. Manning did not seem to anxious to turn and make the tackle but still, should have been called. It would not have changed the outcome. Remember there was only 3 minutes left and Indy had not stopped NO since the first quarter. Its most likely that NO would have run out the clock.
