Default The NEW NCAA Championship to replace the BCS... started by SBR ;)

OK now you can’t eliminate the bowls, everyone knows that so alright.

You have all the bowls but the top 8 make the new BCS. They play in the major bowls. Here would be your schedule.

(1)USC vs (8) Notre Dame Rose Bowl
    (2) Texas vs (7) Oregon Cotton Bowl
    (3) Penn St vs Ohio St Orange Bowl
    (4) LSU vs (5) Virginia Tech Sugar Bowl

    The next week would be:
(1)USC vs (8) Notre Dame winner
    VS
    (4) LSU vs (5) Virginia Tech winner
    ---------And-------------------
    (2) Texas vs (7) Oregon winner
    VS
    (3) Penn St vs Ohio St

Then the Saturday BEFORE the Superbowl we could have the two remaining teams play in the NCAA Superbowl.

Now if USC is going to be National Champs they would have to defeat Notre Dame, LSU or Va Tech AND probably Texas. If they could do that they would deserve to be the champs and the title would have great meaning not to mention some fantastic ball games for the fans.

I like it and wish that they would do it. Texas should be the #1 seed.

West Virginia and Georgia have to be included. These are two of the best five teams in college football. I'm looking forward to the Sugar Bowl.

With corrected teams, my picks would be:

(1)USC 52 vs (8) Notre Dame 28 Rose Bowl - turf in Pasadena is less than 18 inches high.
    (2) Texas 45 vs (7) West Virginia 38 Cotton Bowl - Texas struggles against quick backs, and the option - WVU could put up some points with that backfield. Still not enough.
    (3) Penn St 27 vs (6) Oregon 7 Orange Bowl - No running game, erratic passing game takes on one of the best defenses in the nation.
    (4) Ohio St. 10 vs (5) Georgia 13 Sugar Bowl - This Georgia team is one injury and one 4th and 10 play from being undefeated and playing for the national championship. Two big-time defenses duel it out.

USC 24 vs Georgia 34 - I'm not sure anyone in the nation would match up better with USC than Georgia, and here is the problem with any playoff system. A bad draw leaves the best team watching from home.
Texas 30 vs Penn State 17 - Despite the good season, Michael Robinson not reliable enough to call for the upset here.

Georgia 20 vs Texas 24 - Georgia gives it their best shot, but the Longhorns are too much. The nation is deprived of the anticipated USC-Texas matchup.

This is why I am one of the minority in favor of the BCS. The best team is much more likely to win than in a crapshoot playoff.
