Default Who splits faces on dealer 6?

I do. I get shit from other players in multi-player BJ, but 80% of them pipe down when I win both hands, which seems to happen more than half the time.

Can one of our math/card geniuses tell me if this is actually a decent strategy, once and for all?

(BTW, don't try this in standard one-to-one internet blackjack or you will get screwed more often than not.)

the reason its bad is because your taking potential bust cards. If you win of your hands and the dealer makes a hand and the table loses its still a bad proposition.

I mean you got to get yours but you can be on the other end half the time and not want to get screwed over.

I dig the table karma, until, but if the dealer holds 6 and the table isn't showing faces, the odds are in my favor (at least on single deck), and it's every man for himself. If other players get hammered when I pull out a double win, it serves them right for doubting my strategy. Besides, the dealer is busting quite a bit with a 6 anyway and everyone wins, so then no one is bitching about my doubling up the stakes.

I know other players at the table can TRY to screw you if they think you screwed them, but if your only transgression is splitting faces on dealer 6 (which doesn't happen very damn often), I think you can stay in their good graces by playing it by the book on other deals.

Very true on single deck, but i mean would you rather rely on a bust or about a 92% chance of winning. By splitting 10's your breaking up the 2nd best possible hand for the worst possible dealers hand to rely on a bust. When you split your cards over time your going to end up getting 17's, and if the dealer makes a hand 40% of the time its a push situation with the 2 hands vs about a 90% win rate staying put. Im not sure the math on this but i believe the dealer is going to bust 58% of the time on a 6. so assuming theyll make a hand 42% of the time your going to push both of your hands for even ,58% of the time. And when a 6 makes a hand its most likely 18 or 19 by averages of possible cards available vs splitting your 10's your going to average around a 17 over time after splitting. Im sure justin will have a answer for you by morning.

Stick with the SBR Casino for splitting face cards. On a table down here you could get an ice pick through your hand the second time you tried that. If you are counting cards there is a true count that would recommend that strategy, its probably +8ish. Otherwise its a money loser to the house longterm.

Mathematically speaking 2 ten value cards should never be split unless you know the count.

Looking at the mathematics behind the situation when the dealer shows 6 it is quite marginal. For 6 deck BJ there is a 41% chance of the dealer busting from a 6, whereas there is a 62% chance that al leat one of you hands ends up between 12 and 16. The EV of splitting is less than 2 percent worse than standing, but standing is the right thing to do.

The basic strategy logic is that breaking up a 20 is breaking up a nearly unbeatable hand.

I've seen 3 types of players that split 10's

1. People that have never played before.
2. People that think they know it all.
3. Stupid drunks.

Even if you consider yourself to "know it all", it doesn't put you in good company.

Okay, I got the answers I was looking for. Statistically, it actually is a bad idea. So I guess I'll stop pissing off other players at the table by splitting tens.

Unless, of course, I want to piss them off.

Or if I feel like I need to break up the algorithm on internet blackjack. Sometimes it pays to do the unexpected with software.

So is the only wise split on 8s or 9s with dealer 5 or 6? I guess I need a remedial class on splitting, since I apparently don't have it right on tens/dealer 6.

I get shit all the time in Vegas, BUT Double deck at 6:5 odds BJ 100% of the time I will double down on Black Jack against dealer 6.

Note this is only in 6:5 BJ I try not to play it much. I think I am 11 for 11 doing it. Pays hell of a lot better. If everyone did this Vegas would get rid of the 6:5 game all together!

Statistically

99 - Against 6 = split, Against 5 = split
88 - Against 6 = split, Against 5 = split

First time to Free Port, first time in a real casino and first time ever playing live Black Jack, I get 2 Queens, dealer has a 4 showing, I split get another Queen and split again. I end up with 20,21,20 and 19 and everyone at the table gets up and leaves.

At the time I did not understand the common rule about everyone as a whole against the dealer.
