Rumor has it that Howard Stern is in negotiations to join American Idol as Simon Cowell's replacement. Howard's contract with Sirius runs out this year and he has said that he isn't sure what he's doing next. Supposedly, Idol has offered him Simon's position.

I'm a huge Howard fan. I don't really watch much idol, but if Howard were to join the show, i wouldn't miss an episode. He is probably the only guy who could replace Simon and still keep the shows ratings or make them even higher.

I don't think howard will conform to the mainstream. If he joins idol, he'll do it by his own rules.

The one thing about it is that Howard has always talked about his jealousy for people who host games shows and things and make big money. It's cake work. He would have to make huge dollars to join the show, and the work would be easy compared to doing a radio show every day.

All this being said i'm still not sure if he'd do it. I hope he does though.

Report: Howard Stern tapped to replace Simon Cowell on 'American Idol'

Shock jock Howard Stern has been offered Simon Cowell's seat on the "American Idol" dais, a new report says.

The New York Post's Page Six claims that Stern is in negotiations to replace the critical Brit in 2011 when his Sirius XM contract expires. He's hinted at mulling the gig on several occasions on air.

"It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100-million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon," an "Idol" source tells the Post.

Compete it might, but whispers in Stern's camp say he's not thrilled about touring the country auditioning talent, nor is he excited about the amount of time he'd spend in Los Angeles for performance and result shows.
"I was approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show and leave here and do that next year -- and I did turn it down ... I'm not even sure if I want to be working. I'm waiting to see what happens," Stern recently said on his show.

This doesn't mean the Fox ratings juggernaut is ready to give up.
"They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. 'Idol' will do what it takes to sign him," the show source added.

A Stern source echoed to Page Six the belief that "this is a ploy to make Sirius pay up and keep him on his huge contract. But if Sirius can't pay him the money he wants, he may negotiate to film 'Idol' on the side."

Stern would join newly tapped daytime queen DeGeneres, songwriter Kara DioGuardi and producer Randy Jackson.

This all started with the NY post doing a poll about who should replace Howard. The first person was Puff Daddy, then Howard. Stern even said on his show when he found this out that he would not do it which makes me wonder how this news got out. Stern would bring something great to that show but unfortunatly, all the stuck up prissy bitches who watch the show would not appreciate him as a judge.

Absolutely love and respect Stern, he was such a pioneer and one of a kind for our generation, but he would've been the last person I would of thought of for this gig, not to mention his target audience couldnt be a more polar opposite of the Idol target audience.

Not that I watch this show, I don't, but commercials I have had the misfortune of seeing make it obvious that anyone would be better, less excruciating to look at, than the phugly-ass reanimated mummy-looking "Posh Spice".

What'd she do to get "famous" anyway? She was in "Spice Girls"?. I never heard even one of their songs. From what I have gathered.....I have been fortunate in this regard.

Their are reports of idol upping their offer to ridiculous amounts of money. Even Howard would have a hard time turnings down 30 or 40 millions or a couple months of easy work.
