Shot in the dark here, but the FBI might not be entirely receptive to helping a guy who got involved in an overseas gambling operation.

I can't just see it now, "OK, listen. I was gambling online on credit and lost. I'm supposed to pay back a $1,000, but don't feel like it. Now these guys want their money back and they are threatening me. Can you help me?"

To get the FBI's help he first has to admit to two crimes - gambling and theft. This is going to work out great.
