If you can find 3+ successful handicappers, you can use a consensus. Throw out the plays they disagree on, and you'll hit slightly higher than their average rate.
As far as Dan Gordon goes, I think he is more talk than work. Does he have a winning record for the last 6 years? His book isn't terrible - the more methodologies you know, the better. I wouldn't bet money on his ideas alone though.
