Default Other than Larry Brown, which college coaches have succeeded in the Pros?

I can't think of anyone except Larry Brown, who led UCLA to runner up in 1980, then Kansas to the title in 1988.

Jumps to the NBA and has great success (minus a title) at Indiana. Takes an avg 76ers squad to the finals in 2001, and then wins the title with Detroit in 2004 and runner up in 2005.

    Larry Brown is God.

Who else in basketball history has been able to succeed at both college and the NBA levels?

Jimmy Johnson had great success with the Cowboys. Also Barry Switzer did as well, but it was with all of Johnson's talent.

Good point Dan, but I'm specifically looking for College Hoops to NBA success.

    I think it's a good comparison you've got, though..

Chuck Daly was another, but more importantly, all the college coaches were hired for lottery teams. The Magic are far from a lottery team, and with that young nucleus, Donovan was the perfect hire.

P.J. Carlesimo had a long run at Seton Hall before his NBA tours.

Maybe we have to define successful. PJ had a job for about 15 years at SH but only had a run that one year. Anyone remember Terry DeHer (sp). I think he was the best player on that team and he didn't make it in the NBA.

Greg Popovich, moderately succesful at Air Force (both as a player and assistant coach), on to Pomona-Pitzer SCIAC Div III for 8 seasons. Not so bad in the NBA though
