The poker boom has been done for some time now...
That damn law took as much steam out of poker as it did out of sportsbetting...
The only televised poker I ever watched was High Stakes Poker because it was high stakes cash game play featuring great players.
I actually learned a few things from it and I'm a pretty solid player...

I find it okay to watch. I mean, I wouldn't plan my schedule around televised poker but if I'm eating alone and I want something to watch, poker will do.
I have developed strong opinions on many players. I always want Mike Matusow and Phil Helmuth to lose. I kind of want Phil Ivey to lose too. He's not obnoxious like the others but something about him bugs me.
I totally pull for Jennifer Tilly to lose.
I like Daniel Negreanu (fellow Canuck) and Gus Hanson. I like Johnny Chan. There is a hot Canadian chick named Mercier (Isabel ??) who is a good player and can be on my TV screen any time.
I see you saying that the Poker Boom is over S7 but you wouldn't know it from the amount of poker on TV around here. There is TONS of it.

I didn't mean to say its over, rather that its finally plateaued.
Poker will remain a very popular game for some time just because a lot of people got hooked on Hold'em...
The point I was trying to make was that the days of poker chip sets being the #1 Christmas gift are now done...

I watch The World Poker Tour and High Stakes Poker, poker will always have a decent amount of interest even with bans, ect.
The days of the poker supserstars are over, there is no such thing, guys like Ivy are just names now and no where to be found in tourneys, always new names winning big events mainly because of the larger player fields, lots of old timers made their mark mainly because of the smaller fields years ago and such lousy players in the tourneys..

Now that you mention it, I could be watching those old matches. I wouldn't watch a match I have seen before but, other than that, I have no idea when the matches I watch took place.
They don't mention the timeframes often, if at all, during the telecasts, and I don't follow the daily poker news so I wouldn't know if I'm seeing an old tournament.

I have never been big on watching poker on tv. It just doesn't thrill me to watch.

I watch it more for the characters
High Stakes Poker is by far the best poker show on tv
