Since I first ate at Popeyes Chicken, I can't stop going there. Those spicy chicken strips are great. Along with some shrimp cravers, with a side of red beans and rice.

This is all my wifes fault.

This has gone on for sometime now with me.

I went KFC just because I used to eat at a KFC with a buffet all the time (all the chicken, mac & cheese, mash & gravy, turnips, green beans, slaw, potato salad, biscuits, cobbler, etc. you can handle). I love Church's biscuits, and will have to try those spicy chicken strips at Popeyes. Damn, you've got me wanting some fried chicken big time now!

I mostly go to KFC since it's usually pretty easy to find. They're chicken has no transfats so they claim. I like Popeyes but I really have to go out of my way to find one. Church's are usually only located in black neighborhoods.

In terms of health and such, I’m sure they’re all horrible. So I’m just going to answer in terms of taste.

Popeye’s is my all time favorite fast food, and wins this competition hands down. I discovered it on my first trip to New Orleans in 1978 for the Ali-Spinks II fight, when in fact there were few if any outside Louisiana.

Unfortunately even now it’s only a semi-national chain, and most places I’ve lived in my life (including now) I have not been even remotely close to one. So for me it’s more of a rare treat when I’m traveling.

Of course, to return to the health point, if I was back living somewhere where I could eat Popeye’s regularly, I’d be a minimum 100 pounds heavier than today, or more likely just dead already.

Of the three, KFC would be a distant second, and Church’s well behind KFC. In fact, I like the fried chicken you get at the typical supermarket at least as much as KFC and significantly more than Church’s.

I do like the Boston Market, Kenny Rogers type non-fried chicken too. (There are none of those anywhere remotely near me currently either.) I’d put them behind Popeye’s of course, but equal or ahead of most other fried chicken. And in terms of the side dishes, I like places like Boston Market far more than any of the fast food fried chicken places, including Popeye’s.

But it’s funny seeing this thread, because most people who know me are aware of my fondness for Popeye’s and know that they can keep me happy when I’m visiting their town just by scheduling at least one meal there. It’s kind of an inside joke for us.

(Maybe this is already widely known, but I’ll offer up a little Popeye’s trivia. Popeye’s isn’t named after the Popeye in the cartoons. It’s named after the Gene Hackman character “Popeye Doyle” from The French Connection. Apparently the founder was a big fan of that movie.)
