Default Sirius Radio - a bettor's channel

Just an FYI for all you guys who have Sirius radio or will be getting it soon... check out channel 186 - Hardcore Sports Radio. I just found it by freak chance last week (have been a Sirius subscriber for 9 months) and have listened to it quite a bit ever since. Basically it's talk radio with a little bit of an emphasis on betting (some particular shows more so than others). They also curse a lot too (which in my opinion makes it a little more genuine, but to each his own). When you tune to the channel, scores and betting lines will scroll along the face of your receiver non-stop - 24/7. Just thought I'd pass it along... worth checking out for yourself. Us betting folks don't get much entertainment catering to our "type" anymore. Good luck guys!

Here's the Sirius website's description of the channel:

I haven't made the jump to satellite radio yet but it sounds like sirius would be the one to go with.

My wife has XM. It's a lot better than regular terrestrial radio, but I'd only recommend it over sirius if you're a big baseball fan (XM has exclusive rights to MLB). Otherwise, strongly recommend Sirius (it has NFL channel and NBA channel, as well as rights to broadcast all games live with each of the home teams' broadcasters doing every game). One of the best investments I've ever made. Sports and music galore... that's commercial and FCC free!

Great idea for Sirius to appeal to a demographic most don't even think about.

Something tells me the guys hosting the shows on this station are far from sharps though...

Nice find abacus. I've had Sirius for a year and a half and never noticed that channel. Looks interesting. Thanks bro.

cool, glad you like it rjt. And yes Senator, these guys aren't sharps... but they're not idiots either. It's mainly guys bullsh*tting about sports, gambling, betting on sports, and getting drunk/laid seems to work its way in the conversation too.

Another good channel for sports betting info especially during football season is scott ferall's show on Howards 101. His show is pretty ammusing and very heavy sports base. I think its on at like 8pm-midnight.

I'm not up on this, but if its true coach, then that would be the best. Have all the channels of both, on one service.

I have subscriptions to both Sirius and XM and I have received emails regarding the merger from both. They expect the merger to be completed by the end of the year, but it's not a sure thing. Here's an article about the merger: http://money.cnn.com/2007/02/19/news...rius/index.htm.

Anyway, if you need either of them, what's $12.95 extra a month for a gambler?

I have Sirius and I've listened to 186, but I wasn't impressed. My take was that it was infomercials for touts as far as I could tell. 186 isn't listed on my radio right now, so maybe they took it off or something. I haven't listened to the channel in 6 months so maybe the format has changed or something. I'll try to watch for 186 if it pops back on my radio and I'll give an update.

I agree Ferrall is the best source on Sirius for handicapping angles, but his show barely touches on sports handicapping.

Can someone explain to me how satellite radio works? I am but a simple caveman...I don't understand your complicated ways! Specifically, I am wondering if I can only listen while driving or can I bring it inside or listen to it at work.

There are units for the car, units for the home and units similar to a walkman. Personally, I've got a unit that works both in the car and home, I just plug it into my car when I'm in the car and I've got a home setup as well. Car units should probably be professionally installed if you want it to work right, unless you really know your stuff. I'm also looking at getting one of those walkman type things such as the Stilletto 100, it would be nice to listen when I'm out riding bicycle.

P.S. Channel 186 is still not showing up on my unit. Anyone else?

Is there an XM station that competes with this Sirius 186? I need the help and analysis because it has been all downhill for me since the Super Bowl.

Yea just have it professionally installed I got an S50 executive system and it wired for my car. It has ipod compatibilities to the fact that you can carry it around and listen to the headphones but to listen to live feeds you need to have it plugged into the car or home receiver. Sirius and XM both have a portable one that requires no satellite pod. And if your out of a satellites umbrella it scans for wireless connections.

Yeah, I checked again and still nothing. I usually listen in the morning, maybe it only shows up at night or something. I was getting it maybe 6 months ago, but maybe I was listening at night then, I can't really remember.

I think it starts airing at 5 p.m. ET...at least according to the sirius website on the channel.

There are a few shows on 186. "Drive This" "Sports Rage" The times are in later at night. "Drive This" starts at 5pm and "Sports Rage" at 10pm.

Under description of the show both state...{{{{The first ever truly authentic sports talk radio show. We will make sure all hardcore sports fans have all the info they need to enjoy the night’s “action”: We’ll do your homework for you so you don’t have to.}}}}

Under "Sports Rage" is states...{{{{Sports Rage is a late night anger management class for Hardcore Sports fans, degenerate gamblers, insomniacs, loners and all around psychos. Don’t be surprised to hear from Vegas Cappers, heavy metal bands, wrestlers or porn stars.}}}}

Do you have a reference for this information?

I know a lot is hinging on the government's approval of the merger with XM right now.

Actually, if the merger goes through the price of sirius probably still won't move much. It is currently being traded at a premuim to XM stock. The deals states 4.6 shares of siruis to 1 share of xm. That being said the market will correct for the premium then if the business model and industry looks like its going to hold up they both should move in tandem until the merger. At which point, the combined company should start a steady climb up.

If the merger does not goes through expect both stock to drop around 15-20% in a few days. At which time sirius stock should stablize around $2.25 then start a very SLOW climb out of the cellar. While XM stock probably will be in alot of trouble. Continue to drop to around $6-7 a share. XM may not recover do to the fact Sirius has been dominating for the last 6 quarters.

Either case don't expect much movement out of sirius until late 4th quarter '07 if that early. I my opinion still 12 months before much positive movement.
