    Bolt is -1000? Holy s_hit!

You seriously would play against bolt??? I checked sportsbook dot com and they have bolt installed as a -500 favorite.

From what I understand this is a 40 meter race, which is VERY short.

You may be on to something here, I just couldn't play against the fastest man in the world.

Donjuan, i would wait and see how long it is before I laid those odds.

Though Chris Johnson vs. Usain Bolt Unlikely, Sportsbooks Have Odds

NFL News - January 5th, 2010 - Written by John
A slow start to the season kept the Tennessee Titans out of the 2009 NFL Playoffs, and their star running back Chris Johnson's hopes of a race with Usain Bolt may be doomed for the very same reason.
Johnson challenged Bolt to a foot race several months ago, but has said that Bolt will not participate in a short distance race because he is notorious for getting a slow start off the line.
For weeks, representatives of both athletes have been hammering out a deal that would pit the two together in a foot race to decide the world's fastest human being, but the issue of distance has been it's major obstacle.
Johnson wants the race to be done in 60 meters or less, because that is the distance he is most familiar with and set an NFL combine record before the draft in the 40-yard dash.
But Bolt is the current world record holder in the 100 meter, and will only agree to a race of that distance, because he usually lags at the beginning before blowing past his competition late.
Bodog currently has the race as a longshot, posting lines that payout -280 if it doesn't happen by August 1st, 2010 and +220 if it does happen.
If the race agreed upon, Bodog also has Bolt as the favorite with a -900 return to Johnson's +500.
The betting site also has odds to wager which length will be agree upon, if the race is agreed upon at all. Over 60 meters is 3/2, under 60 meters is 9/5 and exactly 60 meters is 5/4.
Johnson calmly retrieved his wares from the Titans' locker room, disappointed about the future, and told reporters that he didn't believe the race was going to happen.
"We got word two days ago. He don't want to do it. He only wants to run the 100, he don't want to run the 50," Johnson said. "He said the only way he'll do it is if he runs the 100."
Money from the race would be donated to charity, and it seems to just be a race simply for entertainment's sake. But both runners clearly have distance preferences based on their training and habits, and a loss by Bolt could have major ramifications. Although that hasn't been an issue mentioned by his camp, his agent, Ricky Simms told UniversalSports that his client wouldn't agree to the race at this time.
"Usain doesn't follow the NFL too closely and is not really familiar with all of the players. He likes [international] football and cricket," Simms said, according to the report. "But more importantly, he has a schedule and a coach to follow and there is no chance that we would set up this type of event."
Bolt is the record holder in the 100m and 200m, winning three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last summer.
Johnson is considered to be the fastest man in the NFL, becoming the sixth player in the history of the league to gain 2,000 yards in a season. At the aforementioned combine, Johnson set the record with a 4.24-second 40.

hold on i'm going to pull up some mathematical s_hit from another site I found while cappping this match up

A little mathematics to convert and compare, Chris Johnson runs 4.24 for 40 yrds. 1 yrd = .9144 of a meter. So 40 yrds = 36.576 meters. so to convert his time to a 40 meter time, 4.24 divide by 36.576 multiply by 40 gives Johnson 4.637 for 40 meters. Not including reaction time.

Now Bolts 40 meter split in Berlin was 4.64 and that included a reaction time of .146. So give both guys an equal reaction time and add it to Johnsons 40 meter time puts Johnson at 4.78 V Bolt 4.64. A distance difference of 1.293 meters in Bolts favour at the finish line.

Now for the NFL campers I will also do the reverse for comparison since the 40yrds is your yard stick (pardon the pun). Bolt runs 40 meters with a reaction time properly timed in 4.64 secs. Convert to yards that is 43.745 yards. So divide the 4.64 by 43.745 and multiply by 40 to get the 40 yard time = 4.242 now to even it out with johnsons time subtract Bolts reaction time of .146 = 4.096 . So Bolt runs the NFL combine type 40 yrds .15 of a second quicker than Johnson. Allow Bolt the same type timing and start the is used in the NFL combine and he probably goes sub 4.0 for the 40 yrds.

WE have a winner….bearing in mind also how accurate or un-accurate is Johnsons 4.24 really . The clock was started on first movement, which all us tracksters know is way quicker than the generous reaction time I have given him in my calculations, so if both guys were to go head to head from the blocks from the gun, the gap over 40yrds or even 40 meters would probably be .2 to .3.
A final bit of Mathematical hypothesising…..if Johnson shaved off the dreadlocks and took the 1 kilo of gold out his mouth , or if Usain did the reverse and took on the trinkets and Baubles of a Rastafarian Roma Gypsy would it make a difference to the times? Happy New Year.

But to be far to your proposition Seer,

"How the heck is a 40-yard timed? Is it actually manually timed by a guy who reacts to the first movement?! First visual movement happens considerably later that the threshold force that triggers reaction time measurement. For a 0.146 RT movements can probably not be visually detected until > 0.2 s. And then a guy has to react to it?! That could easily add 0.3 s (visual reaction is slower that audiitory reaction). That adds up to a clock that starts more than 0.5 s later compared to a FAT time.
A short race like the 40-yard dash seems totally pointless if timing procedures are not rigorously defined and fully automatic in execution."

Johnson would win in a 1000 meter, hands down. If the odds are infact that much of a value, I have to tend with CJ on this one. The only way I would go bolt is the 100 meter. I think CJ has the advantage in a longer race as he is quicker on his feet, but bolt has that burst for 100 meters or so.

Money always talks. Maybe if some sponsor could come up the jack, it could happen.

Still, I think any sponsor would be more likely to film it as a gimmick commercial rather than an actual race.

yes the guy that makes his living working on starts, reaction time, technique, technique, technique blessed with amazing genetics and just recently made other top professionals that have done the same for years and years look silly, like he wasn't trying.

this guy MIGHT lose to a "fast" football player, who makes his living practicing football.

Keep in mind when Johnson did train for track he ran a 10.38 100 meter. Meaning he'd basically not be top 100 in the world. Nor would it make the top 100 of all time high school track performances.

but yeah, i'm sure he' kill bolt
