So loving these movie threads. And I'm getting several ideas for future movie threads (best horror movies, best alien-related movies, best comedies, etc.). Can't wait!

    Related to prior posts:

Man, that movie Thursday isn't even in Netflix! I thought Netflix had everything! Aaron Eckhardt is pretty big, too, I don't get it.

Cougar, remember that movie "Go" from the 90s? That was a good flick, but I can't remember if it would qualify for this category.

    Also, how about "Brick"?

    This is fun!

Yes Capy I remember Go. I don't really think it qualifies for any "best of" list in any category. It was average, above average IMO. Brick is a great movie. I don't really think it fits in the gangster/crime category. Great, great movie though.

Okay, this is embarrassing, but I can't think of the name of a film and need help.

There's some gangster-related movie (maybe it's even in this thread somewhere) that I'm only remembering snippets of...

Something about the protagonist's crazy brother (cousin?) coming home, maybe just out of prison, and stirring sh-t up... I remember the protagonist had a setup on the roof or something, I can picture them hanging out on the roof and there was a fridge up there. (I thought the brother/cousin was maybe Edward Norton but don't see this movie on his IMDb page.)

    LOL!

    Help.

The Yards? Just a guess though...

Nope. LOL, you're in that movie!

Damn, something with Grace in the title maybe? This is driving me nuts.

That's it! That was a good flick, and I believe it would qualify. (And wow, trailers were even cheesier back in 1990.)

Funny, I did check for Gary Oldman movies at IMDb but must have flown past that one. And speaking of the great Gary Oldman, how about "The Professional"??

It is a little older movie about Joseph Bonanno and his rise to power. It was his idea to start the commission of the 5 families. Revolutionized cosa nostra

How can you not have "Gotti" on the list? It's got to be top5 all-time IMO. I'm talking about the one that came out in 1996, not the "Gotti: In the shadow of my father" crap coming out in 2012

    1) Heat
    2) Pulp Fiction
    3) Casino
    4) Goodfellas
    5) Gotti

Goodfellas probably tops my list. Pesci's ad-libbing makes the movie.

Can't forget the more modern movies like Training Day and American Gangster. One of the most badass scenes ever.

The greatest is Godfather, and it's not even a debate.

Now I don't know if this qualifies, and I did not read all 160 odd posts, but was Shawshank even mentioned.

Here's the original list. Not perfect, but it's decent. Gotti I have seen but I thought it was average at the time. Maybe I should give it another shot.

    agreed.

Casino is a good film but it doesn't deserve to be put in the same sentence as some of those others.

Uhhh Shawshank Redemption is a drama. It's not even remotely gangster. It is sorta about a crime, but it wasn't a crime committed by the protagonist. Never mind.
