Default Sportsbook.com using collection agency to collect chargebacks.

They got balls. I just got off the phone with a friend who got a notice in the mail last week that a collection agency has taken over this debt with Sportsbook.com. What is a collections agency going to do? Take it to court?

Because sportsbook.com has been having trouble paying people for 3 months. The only people they will let you speak to are CS reps who have zero information. Everything the CS reps tells you turns out to be totally false.

SPeaking for myself, I was told 3 weeks ago, I was going to be piad. Then the day they were supposed to pay me, they said one of thier departments wanted to verify my address, and I need to send in copies of my drivers license and credit card satements. This is after being a cusomter of theirs for 4 years. My address has always been the same. And the credit card I used, was one I have used off and on for the past 3 years. But suddenly they needed to see it agaoin. So I sent it to them. Then I asked if could get paid, and was told sorry, but since they need to see my ID, I was taken out of the payout queue and would now have to wait another 3 weeks to be paid. That's after having already waited 3 weeks.

Now if a sportsbook did that to you, and your choices were a) wait to see if they pay you or b) do a chargeback beofre it's too late what would you do. And keep in mind that payouts over $2500 take 3-4 weeks to recieve, once they send them

i agree with you marc...how long do you have to ask for a chargeback and can you do it even if the scambook has a signed voucher for your deposit?

If you signed something confirming the deposit it will be harder I would imagine. I don't blame them for going to a collections agency though. There is rarely an excuse to charge back, I could see the reasoning in this case, but would have waited until the last day possible and then only if there was zero sign of payments going out.

Since the debt is not legal the collection agency collecting on it can get into a world of trouble. Your friend could easily sue for $1000 for violations of the fair debt collection practices act i.e. the fdcpa. Tell your friend to send a dispute letter certified mail return receipt requesting asking for proof of the alleged debt. The CA would have to be retarded to send anything. If your friend needs help then pm me. I have done consumer advocacy work for 5 1/2 years now and the fdcpa is one of my specialties.

picantel - you're exactly right. these collection agencies try to scare people. there's no way itll ever go to court. just tell the agency you're going to report them to the Dept. of Justice...then see how fast they run.

§ 807. False or misleading representations [15 USC 1962e]

A debt collector may not use any false, deceptive, or misleading representation or means in connection with the collection of any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

(2) The false representation of --

(A) the character, amount, or legal status of any debt

5) The threat to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken.

(8) Communicating or threatening to communicate to any person credit information which is known or which should be known to be false, including the failure to communicate that a disputed debt is disputed.

§ 808. Unfair practices [15 USC 1692f]

A debt collector may not use unfair or unconscionable means to collect or attempt to collect any debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

(1) The collection of any amount (including any interest, fee, charge, or expense incidental to the principal obligation) unless such amount is expressly authorized by the agreement creating the debt or permitted by law.

Right now you have them on 4 violations. There are probably many more depending on your friend's conversation and other stuff. If your friend lives in florida or north carolina I could help him stuff them in court.

I know the deal when it comes to collections agencies. My credit was screwed up about 12 years ago and had to go through it with these guys.

This book is a fvcking piece of garbage, NO ONE should be playing there.

The Greek, Betjam, even Credit Wagering are far better options!

i think collection agency is just a front to verify the person indeed live there. expect hitman to come and knock you around real soon. when you screw with shady offshore bookies, you're trying to stiff wisemen. you're gonna end up in the east river.

This is old but all you have to do is send them a letter requesting not to be contacted again regarding the debt. If they contact you again you can sue them. There only option after that is to take you to court, and they wont since they are (or are representing) an illegal business.

This case is not a good reason to charge back... Most of you nut jobs have been around for a while and know this gets resolved so unless you are a total newbie a charge back is uncalled for and they should use collection agencies...

FURTHERMORE, let's say someone charges back but ends up getting paid... What are the odds that the person will pay back that chargeback to the book..?

"IF" this is the case don't you think this guy SHOULD pay it..? How many actually pay it and how many make some reasoning to themselves why NOT to pay it so they can feel better about themselves...

You people are really f*cked up... You will b*tch about a book scamming a player but "ENCOURAGE" the player to scam the book... "Call the U.S. Attorney's Office"..? ooh please...

"Marc" has been around and is still playing there so no reason for him to complain... You'll get paid when you get paid and you know that...
