Default NFL goal is super bowl NOT going undefeated

and if a star player gets hurt in the 15th gm of the season, he probably won't play in the playoffs and that means getting what's really important, the super bowl, aint happenin

so please STFU everyone questioning the colts organization, yes organization, for making this decision. bill polian at the top made this call and told caldwell what to do

Hoopster you sound like an idiot the colts were on a roll now you rest your starters even for one game and they lose there focus this move id going to kill the colts they are done emotionally.the players wanted to go undefeated and the coach took that chance away from them.

You lose your rythem when you strt resting players they will be out of cink come playoff time.they are going to have 3 weeks without contct if they decide to rest the starters next week.3 weeks without contact because of the 1st week bye this was a bad move no matter how you try and spin it

The goal is to be the hot team, not the team working on shit and fixing shit. Hoopster, If you have ever played football, rhythm and timing are so important that teams will practice EVERY monday so that the bodies will NOT miss contact at the high school level. As teams get older in college and injuries are more severe there are a few more off day for injuries only. In the NFL players already have a few off days after games, and if you don't play and you don't practice what do you expect when placed in the fire. Ask Curtis Painter. The guy couldn't even hold onto the ball after a hit. Jimmy Johnson went full pads everyday in the pre salary cap era and won two Super Bowls, he did the same shit in Miami in the salary cap era and couldn't win a playoff game. He lost most of his good players before the preseason was over, by the playoffs guys from UPS were suiting up. Football is a delicate balance of keeping the foot on the pedal without losing control. Half assing will not get it.

    Hoopster I agree.

Bill Polian made the decision, not Caldwell.

If the Colts win the superbowl, people will change their opinion.

Someone please refresh my memory when has anyone that rested players ever won the super bowl? The colts won the bowl the 1 time they were still fighting for their playoff seed. I remember, being a browns fan, when the browns needed the Colts to beat the Titans for us to get in the playoffs. Colts rested their starters gave the game away and 2 weeks later were quickly defeated by Chargers at home. And people say it didn't work for the Patriots. My answer to that is really Giants needed miracle play to win the game by david Tyree. And most people forget the Giants had their seed locked in the last week of the season and played their starters the entire game and WON THE SUPER BOWL. Resting players is cowardly and never ever results in a super bowl win.

The goal is prolly also to keep your star QB happy, and tell him this decision before the game rofl...1 look in Mannings face and you know he didn't know + he simply hated being at this "game" at all.

stfu, they had a chance to make history. These guys are paid millions of dollars to give the fans there best out on the field every week, not be pussy's

The way they lost did them no good. Resting players...obviously a smart thing if done right, but...pissing off your fans, and most likely also your QB? And also killing the momentum of a whole season?
Dumb, just very dumb, and it will most likely bite them in the A$$ soon.

Jim Caldwell will have the last laugh if the Colts win the Super Bowl. Records are made to be broken. You don't play the game to set records, you play the game to contribute and give your football team the best chance to get into the playoffs and win a world championship.

those of you questioning the decision to sit starters would be BLASTING the colts brass if peyton, reggie wayne, dallas clark, or some other key player had torn up a knee in the 4th quarter of a meaningless gm (meaningless for hm field advantage thru the playoffs) when the player should have been sitting on the sidelines

i know how this works. i know you better than you know yourselves

most of you questioning the decision are INCAPABLE of understanding real world theories and practices of knowing a decision is a right one BEFORE the results play out. hindsight is always 20/20

you're the same guys who cringe at a poker table when you have to lay down 7-2 offsuit but see the flop come out 7-7-2........you go on tilt for the rest of the night and get busted from your chips.............. you'd have to be of a higher thinking mind to put out of your mind what happened from what COULD not have happened

duhhhhhhhh... I understand his reasoning behind resting his starters.

I don't understand why he made a statement saying that manning would play as long as the game was competitive.

    15-10...

If the game means nothing to you... and your going to pull him in the 2nd half and take the chance at going undefeated away from them... then why the hell do you play him in the first half... manning doesn't need to stay "fresh".

The players have only themselves to blame. They had nearly 3 quarters to give their backup a comfortable lead, and didn't even crack 17 points. The Jets defense are certainly no scrubs but with the excellent protection Manning had, they should have been able to rack up more points than that.

False.........he had a lot more depth and a lot better team in Dallas than he did in Miami........

Your argument with Jimmy Johnson makes no sense not to mention the fact he had a running game and a QB in his prime with dallas while in Miami he had a guy playing QB on the brink of retirement with no running game..........

    This reasoning make me

so you are saying the starters should've played harder... which i would think would increase the risk of getting injured...

so give it all they've got in the 1st 2 quarters... if they break a leg in the 1st 2 quarters its ok... but not in the 2nd half... definitely not in the 2nd half...

Would this be a lesson well learned for teams who throw games by resting players??

Okay we all can agree that the Jets are getting a free ticket to the playoffs from Colts&Bengals so SINCE that's a FACT! Jets have #1 Defense in NFL we all know
That Defense is the #1 key to sucess for post season so ask your self Does post season really begin last couple weeks in regular season?? I would say so.

Now this would be perfect for my theory on this: Jets go to Superbowl knocking
Colts out of race on the way and win SUPERBOWL!!!

That my friends would be PRICELESS!!!

dude, the colts brass gave the starters a chance for the entire first half and 10 mins into the 3rd quarter to try and pull away from the jets, but the colts offense could not do it. yes, the jets D is very good and very physical, oh and DUUUUUUHHHH the bring a lot of blitzes so manning could've been blindsided and KO'ed from the gm (shit happens all the time in this league just ask tom brady, d mcnabb, matt ryan, eli manning, etc etc etc)

the colts brass was genuine in trying to win the gm, but late in the 3rd quarter it was clear they were in a dogfight and something bad might happen and with bob sanders your defensive QB already out why take a chance losing any other key starters?

great decision by the colts brass, and that's why they have a SB win under their belts and those of you questioning the decision, do NOT

you are still failing to answer my question...

Why did the coach start him in the 1st half? Why did he give him the chance in the 1st half at taking a lead if his "main" concern was making sure he didn't get injured.

You are just hurting your argument.

Peyton should not play next week at all. Should not take a single snap or practice. Remember, players get hurt in practice too. There is nothing to play for now, no perfection, no home field, nothing. But I bet you 1000-1 Peyton starts the game, which is more meaningless than yesterday's game. He could tear his achilles tendon dropping back like Vinny 10 years ago. That will tell you all you need to know about the punk move yesterday by Caldwell and company.

He will start so that he maintains his consecutive starts streak.

Momentum is a big deal going into the Dance. It doesn't happen often when a team backs in - and then wins it. The Colts have done it before, but I don't care for it.
I think in the whole era of Brady/Manning - Manning never going for perfection hurts his argument. But then again, if he wins another Superbowl, then that washes that out.

I still don't care for resting healthy players. I think you play to win in the NFL, no matter how meaningless the result is. Also, it does cheapen your opponents records when they beat you because you have scrubs that are not even worthy of serving gatorade. The Jets could conceivably make the playoffs due to 2 potential cheapy wins. To me, that's bunk.

Colts are exactly the team to be praising when it comes to winning championships...........for all the 15-2, 13-3 records they have had in the past 6 years they have 1 super bowl..........

I will be lmfao when the Colts get knock out in the 1st round by the Patriots. By conceding your next two games, is that a guarantee that the Colts will even make it to the Superbowl? Hell no! They acted like having an undefeated was going to hurt them. If anything, the opposition will have doubts in their head, having to beat a team that has yet to be beaten the entire season.

ChokeJob by the Colts Organization, and I can't wait when they get knocked out by the Pats or Chargers.

Right off the top of my head, the 1994 49ers. Rested everyone and lost to Minnesota in their final regular season game.

Won all their playoff games including the Super Bowl by double-digits.

I am sure there are many other examples but I am not inclined to do the research.

Yeah, and the 14-2 Broncos in 1998 played all of their players against the Seahawks in regular season finale enroute to a Superbowl win. Mike Shanahan chose not to rest Terrell Davis, so he could get his 2,000 yards season, eventhough that game was completely meaningless.

only a handful of teams the last 20 yrs have multiple super bowls w/the same team. cowboys early 90s, denver late 90's, pats early 2000s, and steelers 2 in the last 4 yrs.

to even have ONE FUKKING super bowl win in a career is IMPRESSIVE, just ask dan marino, buffalo bills coach marv levy, and dan reeves. each guy went to MULTIPLE super bowls but NEVER WON

to other sports, ask charles barkley, karl malone, john stockton and patrick ewing how they feel

    wake up
