Vote: Gambling - Hobby or Destrucive Leisure?
I'm an obsessive gambler. No money, but still bet every cent I come by. I wish it was just a hobby, but it isn't.

Without a doubt, with the exception of a few posters here, gambling is a waste of time and money. I make a little cash doing this...maybe 4-5k a year and I waste tons of time

It's a shame but for too many people its a destructive leisure. Fortunately I don't give two shit's about most of these people though, because frankly if you can't stop doing something that's destructive to you, and you know it, then you deserve anything you get. It can be good for making money though, and for some who can control it, it can be a hobby. Like most vices, in moderation it can be nice, in excess it can ruin your life.

For the lucky ones.
Sometimes people lose a lot more than money and time (housing, food, family, life).

That is the most ignorant statement I've seen on this forum, and that's saying something, because this whole board is filled with high school dropouts like jjgold.
Gambling addiction is like alcoholism and it needs to be treated by professionals (GA). I recognize that I have a problem, but I need the help of others to beat it.

Hobby. I tried it with real money a couple of years ago, and didn't see the use. I'm fine with doing it recreationally. No regrets.

ND, I'm not sure I get the point of this thread. You start by saying that you spend every cent on gambling and then you go on to describe bad things associated with it. Do you want us to join you in your pity party or are you simply looking to validate your own weakness? If you have a problem, get some help. You seem to recognize that in one of your posts above. In any event, I don't think hanging out here is a good idea for you right now and you certainly aren't going to find the help you seek amongst a bunch of gamblers.

Well, my problem, personally, is that I have no self control or patience. I pick 75%+ winners, but have the tendency to bet it all on one game, which usually loses (of course).

GA is not "professional" they are a 12 step peer support group.
If you need professional help you should look for an addiction treatment hospital or mental health organization.
In Ontario its CAMH - they are professionals.
