4/30/2007 02:07 PM betmania (SBR rating D+) confirms cancelation of two Arena Football wagers because the player attempted to win a "middle" (betting on both opposing sides using different lines for the possibility that both bets will cover) and refuses to alter decision. betmania's wagering rules do not prohibit betting both sides of a game and state that it uses Las Vegas bookmaking rules for issues that are not addressed within the Terms of Service. However, Las Vegas rules do not prohibit wagering on both sides of a line. Note: betmania claims the bets were canceled before the event began but did not alert the player or provide proof including a time-stamped email. The player claims that if he had known the bets were not wanted he would have placed the wagers at a different sportsbook for the same return of $500. I spoke with management about this dispute. What is troubling is that they thought it was fine to cancel any wager, as long as it is done before the game begins. Without going in to when it was canceled, I adamantly disagreed. A book cannot cancel a wager unless it has a rule that clearly covers it, no matter when they do it. What are player thoughts on a book that usually pays its players, but is somewhat arbitrary in canceling wagers? for the sake of argument, assume they were canceled before the events began. |

I think it's classless on Betmania's part.
If your gonna offer it then expect people to bet it! Don't sit there and claim your a reputable book when it's quite clear your not by doing something as shady as this type of crap. Hell, technically they are a no pay book IMO by them pulling this type of stunt. Pay the gentlemen his money and then boot him from your book if you want too, but by no means rob the guy like they did. Bottom line is that Betmania should be downgraded to "D-", because of these types of these unethical business practices they take part in. |

Huge thumbs down from me. That's about as tacky as it gets. I certainly think a downgrade is warranted. Thank you gentlemen for the knowledge and hard work as always..

They have been doing things like this for a while now. BetMania recently canceled another (and later agreed to reinstate it) because they deemed it to be a "steam" bet. This is the kind of stuff old BOS mgt. used to try to get away with.

it's crap. Is the bad publicity the get from doing this type of stuff really justify saving a few bucks? Who cares if a player goes for a middle? I would encourage it if I ran a book...how often is it going to win and you will collect the vigorish every time.
