Default Betmania not even trying to hide stealing (resolved 11/14)

This is on the SBR home page. Unbelievable, how low some books are willing to go to save a few hundred bucks.

Quote:

BetMania (SBR rating D+) once again arbitrarily cancels wagers
The player was allowed to place online wagers on two opposing teams. After the event was over the bettor was informed that the winning wagers were canceled because of an unlisted rule. The player is told that, despite what the software allows, the sportsbook does not allow middle attempts. However, BetMania does allow players to buy back a wager when the line does not move in the bettor's favor.
Player: Yesterday afternoon I placed two arena football wagers, NY +1.5 and Grand Rapids +12 at $250 each. Both won last night, but I awoke this morning to find out they were cancelled. The reason stated was that Betmania does not permit middling and I had bet the other side of these games two days earlier. Well, no where does it state in their rules about this absurd restriction, but Victor (wager manager) claims it is an "unwritten rule" (what?). He also says that the bets were cancelled before the games went off which I have no way of knowing if it's true. Fact is I could have made my offsets at Betjamaica and Skybook at that exact same lines, had I known about this apparent rule. Bottom line is that these were legit bets, not error lines, so they should stand. As such, Betmania owes me $500, and I am asking your help in getting it. Victor refuses to budge on this matter, and he is so wrong.

What kinda bush league bullshit is that!

The only thing I can maybe see that covers this type of situation is Rule #18 which states:

Quote:
18. Betmania reserves the right to change all rules and payoffs contained within this website without prior written notice.
Translation: We admit to trying to rob you blind and theres nothing you can do about it, because we reserve the right too.

Just boot him from your book if you want too, but at least pay the gentlemen what your trying to cheat him out of. I know "Upstanding" books would do that if it was in there rules, but then again I guess Betmania is nothing more than a two bit (SBR rated D+) operation.

Was a bonus involved here? Although it wouldn't excuse the actions of the book, it would somewhat put them in a better light. Although not that much better if you have to rely on an "unwritten rule".

Dark Horse, your last post has violated the unwritten rules of SBR. Please edit your post.

That's absurd.

Taco, bonus or no bonus, they are legitimate bets. The player risked the market moving the other way. Is he allowed to cancel the bets if the book can middle him in the market?? This is bush league allll the way.

Books that make up rules along the way, ala BOS, SBG and BetUS, will always think up new unwritten rules to screw winners.

Canceling a winning wager because you took a middle at the same book? Betmania is ridiculous.

There was no listed rule. Even a listed rule prohibiting that would be unreasonable. I hope they show some common sense, and fix this.

I am so glad I bailed out of Betmania about 5 months ago.

Tells you all you need to know about their cash situation if they even picked this up on $250.00 bets.

Betmania, Sportsbook, Cascade, Betus - all complete shit. DO NOT SEND MONEY.

"Unwritten rule".....This may have just taken over as the Gold-medal winning pathetic sportbook excuse of 2007.

Makes one wonder what some of the other "Unwritten rules" are...Perhaps if you have 5 consecutive winning wagers, there is an unwritten rule that you must forfeit your earnings on any subsequent winners. Unwritten rule 46b, clause F, or something like that.....

It's good that they paid. Lots of books have this rule but it must be written.

I'm glad to see they actually decided to do the right thing here after all.

Here is a new rule they just implemented I noticed during the last SRR rules monitor scan.

Quote:
37a. Basketball reduce juice of -108 applies to internet wagers only. Free half points are valid every thursday from 4PM to 7PM Eastern Time. Free half point wagers must be of a minimum of $100 to a max of $500 per play (no repeat wagers that exceed the max of $500 are allowed) . Free 1/2 point wagers are for sides only, and exclude added games. No buying points or other promotions are allowed in conjunction with free 1/2 point wagers. Half points are not allowed on 1 point spreads. Promotion is valid for regular season basketball only.(Rollover required is of 7x+30Day hold)
I just thought I'd give everyone a heads up on this sub section additional rule they slid in their on everyone on November 5th, 2007.

Thank you SBR. I am that person. After 6 months or so, I gave up on it, only to find $500 more in my account a few minutes ago. I was going to start a thread about it, but as usual you're ahead of me. Wow, simply wow.

Rules don't matter much with this outfit, anyhow, unless they use them against you. They will also make up rules, retroactively, a la sportsbook.com. Avoid betmania at all costs. They seem to offer a lot of juicy rewards, but after a careful risk/reward analysis it aint worth it, folks. Place is managed by thugs.

I am glad they were willing to revisit this. BetMania is going to make a run at bookmaking again. We will stay in contact and try to advise if they don't get tired of us again.

Mania has a lot of work to do. They did bring in two people that I consider to be straight shooters and we have a lot of questions for management going forward.

Thanks, Raiders.

Here's the newswire from April, when the cancelation first occurred, just to refresh everyone's memory:

BetMania cancels winning wager
04.29.2007 11:24 PM

BetMania (SBR rating D+) once again arbitrarily cancels wagers
The player was allowed to place online wagers on opposing teams. After the event was over the bettor was informed that the winning wagers, the second set of bets, were canceled because of an unlisted rule. The player is told that the sportsbook does not allow middle attempts. However, BetMania has allowed players to buy back a position when the odds do not move in the bettor's favor. SBR will contact the sportsbook on player's behalf.

Problem is their reputation has been shot, to make a run of it again is hard. Customers are not forgiving. And what they have done is bad. Good luck to them trying to make it as legitamate under the same name. There is competition out there. Books like the Greek have never needed to change. I would be very careful with them. They deserve their D rating.

I have been drawing down there ever since this happened, taking $1000-$1500 per month, until I had my balance down to $1000. Tried to bet this off, but won more there...and now the return of $500. Haven't taken any in awhile, but I'll withdraw some on Monday. I'll let SBR know how well that goes. Maybe they are getting their act back together (they were a B Book when I originally signed up).

Ah yes I do recall your situation very fondly, and I must say I expressed true outrage over it on your behalf towards them here on the forum. I'm just glad the complaint just finally got rectified.

Let us know how your withdraw processing goes.
