I think it is a good idea, if it happens. But I don't see it happening.

I think them wanting to play a super bowl out of the USA, is a terrible idea.

Yeah that's fair enough. I guess if I cared about the purity of professional sports and the records and all that, this could be seen as not good. Although I must point out that the NFL used to play less than the current 16 games so all records being set right now are just as impure from a history standpoint as they would be if a game was added. That is true of all the major sports.

Personally, I just look at sports the same way the players and owners do - as being all about me making money.

If I bet pre-season NFL this would make less difference but I only bet NFL from week 3 to the end of the regular season. I would still be happier to have this change though. The limits are higher for regular season games and one of my favorite betting features about NFL is that is has the highest limits. So that's one less week with wimped-down pre-season limits and one more game with full limits. Good for me for money-making.

Adding this one extra game (if it happens) is not a huge deal by any means. However I am hoping it is the first step towards my ultimate dream of having the NFL be like Major League Baseball and play a 162 game schedule.

I don't see this happening.

But it would be cool pushing the Super Bowl back to the end of February. That's always a lull for sports. If we could jump right from the Super Bowl into March Madness, that would be a sports junkie's dream.

I'm curious why the posters who say they don't see this happening feel that way.

It seems to me that it would be the owner's decision. More real games should equal more revenue for them. They should like that (much as they did when they increased the schedule from 14 games, and much as baseball did when they increased the schedule from 154 games etc. etc.)

I realize the NFL players' union is not particularly powerful; still, I'm pretty sure the collective bargaining agreement sets the salary cap based on revenues so any additional revenues would increase salaries. They should like that.

The only reason I can see that they wouldn't go to 17 games is they decide to go to 18 instead.

I'm not saying the skeptics are wrong. Maybe I'm missing something. What's the rationale for doubting?
