Default bad bad bad bad bad bad bad BEAT

i'm wondering if anyone remembers this game.....

It was with the Browns about 8-ish years ago I wanna say....

they were winning the game by 1 or 2 points and the other team was driving with just a few seconds left. The team was not quite in field goal range and had no time outs....

so they tried one last bomb to the endzone, but as the QB dropped back he was sacked and time ran out...game over Browns win.....

except that the guy who sacked him, (I think) and i'm prettty sure his last name was Rudd.... dwayne rudd maybe? he took off his helmet to celebrate the victory because he was so pumped up....

well that is a penalty. unsportsmanlike 15 yards, and since a game can't end on a Defensive penalty there had to be one more snap..... well the team was just barely in FG range now and made like a 52 yarder to win....

have no idea what the spread was, I wasn't gambling... but anyone on the ML...that had to be a top ten worst beat ever

He wasn't sacked because that would have ended the game, Rudd thought he was sacked, and pass got off.

doesn't sound like one of the top 10 beats of all time

I was thinking along the lines of....

"Hey, I've got SDSU Money Line... they're up by 10 w/ 23 seconds to go in regulation... and they LOST THE GAME in OT"

That's a real bad beat. The shit you're talking about happens about once a week.

really? a team gets a chance at a FG with zero seconds on the clock, because a guy threw his helmet?

find me another time that happened recently

    that was college hoops.

Also, there was another game... down by 6 pts w/ 3.4 seconds left. Team launches a 3... and is fouled. 4-pt play. Inbounder throws it to half court to a teammate to run the clock out. Ball is intercepted near mid-court and a prayer is launched...

BOOYAH! 1-pt win and 7 pts scored in 3.4 seconds.

How DO you do? ... as they say

what's the big deal. it was a penalty at the end of the game.

didn't we have the Lions/Browns game end... and then one more play happen.

I don't view that as a biggy. However, when was the last time you remember a 10-pt turnaround in 22 seconds? I pulled the Lions/Browns game out of my arse ... and that happened a few weeks ago.

Last year Al Harrington hung on the rim with his team leading with less than a minute left in the game. He was called for a technical both times. The Knicks ended up losing in OT both times to the Clippers.

Not real similiar but both are bonehead plays.

tully I think you are getting to crux of the issue here...... its not so much "how impossible of a beat is it".... but how bad of a beat, because of bone-headedness....

somthing that had nothing to do with actualy physical play, but an idiotic "celebration" like throwing a helmet or hanging on a rim....

if I lost a bet on that texas high school game 2 decades ago, where one team came back from 35 down or somthing in 5 mins.... hell i'd be pissed but at the same time I'd treasure the fact I got to witness that game in such an intense way....

in case you don't wanna watch that whole video..... basically plano comes back with a series of onsides kicks and big plays and scores 5 td's in like 2 mins and 30 secs...

after the last TD puts them up like 45-41 they kick off with a few ticks left, and the opposing team returns it all the way for the win

The "taking off the helmet" rule is ridiculous as is the "excessive celebration" rule.

These bonehead plays happen all the time, its a lack of discipline. Sports have become such a money marker, that you will put up with a lack of discipline for talent. It relates to what Bob Knight was talking about the other day with regards to coach Cal. Umass will never admit, but he made them plenty of money, who really cares if you have vacate a final four appearance.

    yeah, I remember that.

also, didn't the Rockets win a game after being down by 13 with like less than a minute.
How about the monumental Houston Oilers collapse in the playoffs to the Bills about 15 years back.
And didn't Leon Lett do something stupid to cost Dallas a game.
Those are the few I remember. And why do they all involve Texas?

I remember that but another bad beat when Joe Gibbs tried to call back to back time outs getting a flag and a loss after the penalty.

Okay...February 8, 2004 Toronto Raptors @ Golden State Warriors. I had GSW -4.5 to finish the last leg of a 3 teamer. Warriors took a 16 point lead to the 4th quarter.

They proceeded to score only 2 points in the entire 4th quarter (NBA record btw) Toronto wins in OT 84-81...

Are you kidding me, this is nothing... Get a load of this bad beat...

A few weeks ago, I had Carolina Hurricanes +1.5 and Under 5.5 (both were last legs of 2 separate 5 team parlays)... Carolina is down 3-2 with 12.9 seconds left in the 3rd period. They are on the powerplay and have an offensive zone faceoff with the goalie pulled (ie. 6 on 4), these morons lose the faceoff, get the puck back to the point, slapshot gets blocked and some jackass shoots the puck from his own blueline to score with 1 second left on the clock

4-2 final, Under 5.5 is screwed and +1.5 is screwed on some bullshit play.
