I work in a Casino and I think it is that people lose the value of money. Online betters don't have to hand over cold hard cash so it is much easier to bet large amounts, Casinos use chips for that exact same reason.

The biggest challenge is balance. Betting will test character, mind, and feeling, and the gamblers who go off the deep end are the ones who lose their balance.

its the addiction.
i have had a ridiculous week. turned 140$ into almost 1200$ in 6 days sports betting. every% figure in the world says STOP NOW. Not only does it not appear like I can't stop, I haven't slept good in 5 nights, because ontop of watching 12 hours of baseball and stats a day, i am dreaming sports betting in my sleep.
its the thing that doesn't let you stop - the thing that keeps you awake for four straight days at the tables ... you know what im talking about.

Lack of balance...
So is greed.
So is any type of mental aggravation. Or addiction.
Staying centered is the hardest thing. Isn't that why we gamble? To learn that more quickly.

Physiological meltdown
I think many Gamblers suffer from this especially after a bad run, you become 'scared' to place a bet in case this is a loser as well
I also think that Gamblers suffer more with mood swings then the average guy (I do anyway )

Poor bankroll management.... your only allowed a certain % of your bankroll per wager no matter how easy the pick looks.

Its go to be Burnout. To do well it takes a lot of dedication just to have the right infomation, then analysis, and then you have to put your money where your mouth is. Then sometimes after all this, you lose...

Chasing losses..Big downfall for many. Also betting 4 Units on 1, 1 on two others, ending up 2-1 and down 2 Units...That sucks!

Betting with your heart and not your mind. Panicking and chasing losses instead of sticking with your plan.

IGNORANCE. Even some very sharp people make fundamental and stupid mistakes. Call it emotional betting, call it bad money management, call it whatever you want, it's plain and simple ignorance. Then again, that's what keeps the whole thing going.

Money management. If you can't find winners you will lose eventually, but even if you have winners and can't stick to correct betting amounts you will go down anyway. Not to mention that now the risk of not getting paid even if you win is higher than ever.

Forcing yourself to bet on a game because you need recreation or excitement or to recover losses from a bad beat which is called steaming in poker. It's sort of like being horny and looking up gals in your little black book and you pick the closest one who's not busy not taking into consideration that better looking one's will go out with you next week if you care to wait.By that I mean a good gambler has intuitions, gut feelings, etc. when you see and hear about a game that's a mortal lock. These kinds of games can come along 3 times a week or you might have to wait a month sometimes but it seems like you win 85% of the time on them.
When you win some free bet and you want to hurry to use the free bet because it's found money and you think the book won't pay you if too many people win on the freebie you litteraly pick the games out of a hat.It seems you are lucky to win 35% of these bets.
The moral of the story is,the worst thing you can do as a gambler is to bet just for the sake that you need an entertainment fix or gambling buzz for quick satisfaction fulfillment.

i think i did every single one of those things on the list. learned my lesson and i agree with you completely. i hate #4 the most because my friends would recommend picks and if i lose, they're like shit happens. if i win, they claim the credit. annoy the **** out of me. that is why i don't usually bet on events my friends are betting. there are enough games to go around.
