He will be a good story for some reporter.
1. first round draft pick
2. 4 different offensive systems
3. Thrown under the bus by Mike Nolan when he played hurt
4. Became a student of the game last season as a backup
5. Rose from the ashes to lead the struggling niners
It's all media b.s. I think Alex has done a solid job but Franchise?? No way. I'm actually interested in the QB the niners have waiting in the wings....Nate Davis from Ball state.

Smith is a below average qb in the NFL. Any qb would of won yesterday with the Cardinals turning the ball over 7 times.

He has good weapons in crabtree, Davis and Gore.He should be able to lead them to the playoffs next year. The organization has been in chaos for years. Like Jaworski said he has had 5 different off cordinators in 5 season while jaws himself only had 4 in 17 years.

I think they would be willing to lower the bar to keep him in order to:
1: Have a QB in the same system for a 2nd year for a change.

Gore makes the guy look good he will not be there QB of tge future and if he is they are not winning any Superbowls or for that mater a playoff game. Right now they are in a very crappy division and he is playing ok.

He telegraphs most of his passes, he doesn't adjust to the D that they give him (throwing the ball away doesn't count), and he won't win you many games himself.
I don't want the 9ers to waste a first round pick on a QB cause I don't feel that there are any sure franchise QBs in the draft...but any chance Mallett falls to the 2nd round?

Smith has been overrated since he was drafted. Another Kyle Boller type who will bring down the franchise until someone in the front office wakes up and drafts a real QB.
