Default TEXAS HOLD EM --- Do I have a case here ?

So I dont know how many of you play Texas Hold Em, but I had an issue at the tables late Saturday Night. Problem with most of the card rooms I play in is that they have rules posted, but rarely does the dealer or the floor actually enforce their rules.

So anyways I am playing small stakes, its a 5/10 limit game. I bought in for just $200, thats 2 stacks of chips, I was doing great ( for me anyways), as about 4 hours in I had a full rack ( $500) plus another 2 stacks. So I am up a rack or $500.

I am now dealt KING ACE Suited. I am on the button and this is raised to 10 before it even gets to me, so I raise 15 and this ends up capped before the flop. There are 6 callers even with it capped before the flop.

Flop brings Jack Queen Nine. There is a bet but no raising so I call with shit.

Turn brings Eight giving me a flush draw and a gutshot straight draw, there are raises all around and I call even though I know its stupid, but I was getting lucky cards that night so I did it.

Now there are still 5 of us still in, and a pretty big pot.

River comes 10 ( I shit you not ) Board is now 8 9 10 J Q and I have King Ace.

Apparently when the 10 came I gave away my shit to one player by the way I acted, so he immediatly starts off on a rant about how its so obvious that I have King Ace in my hand. He makes sure the whole table knows what he thinks I have.

Dealer doesnt say a damn word. This is a clear violation of the rules. He keeps going on and on because he is down money, a little drunk and looking for attention.

So, I get 1 caller and the other 3 fold. Assuming everyone calls thats another $30 I would have won. Not a big deal but still, its $30. So I tell him he owes me $30 because his big mouth killed my action. He says they would have folded anyway.

It was a big pot and there was a straight on the board. I doubt they all 3 fold if he keeps his mouth shut, as the rules require when there is still action.

I was just as pissed that the dealer didnt say jack shit to him.

So here I am, not really that pissed because I bought in for $200 and now have $900, but at the same time I knew I could drop this weak ass beyotch and look like a big man in a casino full of hot girls. I know if I was down $500, he would have been paying me something.

So I thought about being a caveman type and telling him to get his ass outside so we can settle this, but I just said Fk it, and cashed out and left with his money.

Still, I am wondering here, am I right that he should keep his damn mouth shut or is it really my fault for I guess giving away my hand, and I should thank him for letting me know that I need work on my reaction so as to not give me cards away.

Just wondering what the poker players here think.

You get a lot of Jack asses that react to cards giving away their mucked hands. People putting you on cards after they fold. People baiting others into calls.
It is a joke most places. They do not enforce the rules and if they do the infraction has already altered the hand.

Exactly man, I thought at the very least the dealer should have told him to keep his mouth shut when there is still action.

This guy is the kind of jackass that would have raised so much hell if it was done to him, but his ass bought at least $500 worth of chips during the 4 hours I was there and he had maybe $50 in front of him.

So he is losing and a little drunk and could give a shit about the rules.

If I hadnt been up I would have made some noise over this, but I didnt want to look like the jackass who is up $700 and bitching about another $30. He is lucky that wasnt one of the many nights where I have gotten spanked at the tables or my reaction would have been very different.

I think you did the right thing, next time try to remain relaxed even he is telling your cards, you anwser him back and joke with it. People then may think you have it or not have it. Act like you have it but the same way are bluffing about it.
maybe he spent all his salary that day and he was pissed off.

Yeah acarmelo, I tried to blow it off while there was still action. He just kept going on and on about how he knows I have ace king, then the players in the hand go fold, fold, fold, one guy had a king and he called.

It was after the hand that I told him he owed me $30 and he isnt supposed to say anything. He just blows it off saying they would have folded anyway. Dealer says nothing, even though I tip dealer every hand I win, and its a clear violation of house rules. Still dealer says nothing.

He might be a regular there and the dealer knows him. Or the dealer might be a pussy!
Either way, it is a clear violation. The dealer should have said something. You should have gone to the floor supervisor to not only get that kid out of the game, but to get the dealer in trouble for not doing anything!

Cash is cash, no matter how much at stake! I probably would have ended up in a fight!

I wouldn't tip that dealer ever again!

Its a clear violation of the rules for him to discuss the hand during a multiway pot. IMO, the best way to handle this is to remind him of that, let the dealer know, and say that if it happens again you'll call a supervisor and ask for a penalty. If he does it again then do exactly that. If not, then problem solved. People do this sort of thing way too often in my experience, you just have to speak up and make a polite reminder usually for it to stop.

It's hard for me to say cause I talk a lot.... It's basically just an opinion. If you wouldn't have given it away he wouldn't have known. But maybe you shoulda kicked his ass!

I would asked the dealer during the hand to instruct him to keep quiet.

If the dealer didn't, I would have requested the floor.

If the dealer did not have a good answer for why he didn't say anything I would have stiufed him the rest of his down.

Just for my own curiousity, why do you play $5/$10 Limit?

Yeah, the dealer is a pussy. Most of them dont want to say anything. I understand they make minimum wage plus Tips, so they need their tips but still. I think they dont want to piss anyone off and they figure if they say something that guy is more likely to be pissed then I am going to be if they dont say anything.

Just for my own curiousity, why do you play $5/$10 Limit?

Because I am still learning, and I am just not that good at the game yet. Like in this case, giving away my hand to a drunken jackass.

Even playing $5/$10 I have had night where I have lost a whole rack ( $500), and nights where I have won as much as 3 racks profit or $1500. So to me, the stakes are big enough.

Plus, the casinos I go to have $3/$6 or $5/$10 and very rarely they get enough players to play $10/$20 but that is the highest I have ever seen and when they ask about 10/20 they usually dont get more than 2 or 3 people willing. Seems like the only time players are willing to go 10/20 is when they are getting killed on 3/6 and want higher stakes to try and get even.

I killed them saturday night, but I was getting lucky all night long. Catching that 10 on the river was just one of the many hands I got lucky on. Even though, I probably did have 19 outs to win that hand. Any of 9 clubs and I have Nut Flush., or any 10 and I probably win with and ace or king on the river. But I think someone had a 10 so they had straight before river.

Anyway, I am far from good enough to be playing big stakes like 50/100 in fact I hear about games like that a lot but I have never seen one or know for sure anyone who has played one.

But If I am playing 25/50 or 50/100 the dealer and floor better make sure everyone keeps mouths shut.

Its just an opinion but he still has to keep it to himself. I once saw a game with a massive pot come down to heads up and one guy bets the $10 and the other player is ready to drop his cards. There were 4 diamonds on the board and someone at the table says " what you dont even have a diamond", so he looks at his cards and decides to play since he has like 9 of diamonds but didnt realize he had a flush. He won the hand and the other guy wanted to kill the asshole who said what you dont even have a diamond. He probably would have if there werent 3 sec. guards right there. I learned right there to keep my opinions to myself when there is action going on.

Agree, I just wasnt really in the mood to make a big deal out of whatv really was a big deal. I had been thinking about leaving before my luck turned, so I just took that opportunity to take $900 off the table. Figured that would probably say more than me getting mad would.

damn thats a rough situation, at first you wanna be like 'well dude, dont tip your hand' but its natural for a more inexperienced poker player to give some sort of tell (trust me im no pro im sure ive done it) this guy was really just upset...i mean think about it by the sounds of it you were cleaning up including taking his money, hes mad, probably jealous and wishes he was winning...so he has to try to ruin the fun. reminds me of foxwoods on thurs night...it was my birthday, i had been drinking, a bit messed up but i was doing very well at spanish 21 and was up over $300. this one guy at the table literally called out my every move, and if god forbid i made the wrong move in his eyes he let me and the whole table know about it. he even ended up being wrong more often than not but he would reply with "oh well you got lucky but you shouldnt do this and that" and its just frustrating when you are playing cards and someone takes you out of your game. dont get me wrong, i always appreciate tips from experienced players but this guy was just condescending and being a complete ass about it. sorry for the rant lol but man this just reminded me of that and i cant stand people like that so hey at least you were the better man and you got his money!

Dealer should have said "Hand is still playing"
He was in the wrong for shouting out your cards when there are 5 ppl in the hand; especially if he folds.
You can get pissed about it, as long as it doesn't mess up your game; and you can take from this experience as to not show emotion when you hit a big river card.

Nobs I wasn't implying that 5/10 are low stakes I was just wondering why you play Limit as oppossed to No Limit.

I wasn't really clear in my post.

In fact, if I was "still learning" as you mentioned, I would probably be playing $1/$2 NL live and .10/.25 online.

Limit is a far easier game to learn (as far as strategy) than NL.

Remind the dealer that the hand is still in play then do some damage control to keep people in the pot. If his behavior continues call the floor.

Either that or egg him on and make go on tilt.

You won't get any argument from me there but why "learn" at a 5/10 game? I mean, anything less than 10/20 limit is basically poker bingo isn't it?
