Default Looking to create automated market making model (Matchbook).

Hey all, I'm looking to create an automated market making model for Matchbook. If anyone is interested, I have a lot of the work already done. I've created a library in python that provides us with all interface we will need. I also have experience in creating automated models before.

I'm specifically looking for programmers to help with the project. Not looking to hire, just looking for someone interested in the idea. Post here, or PM.

    Thanks!

wanted to mention that if you don't know how to program feel free to post/PM anyway -- we can talk about it/bounce some ideas around.

You probably will have better luck posting this in the handicapper's think tank. Not many programmers here. Just a few ghost and degens. There isn't as much action in the think tank, but there are some bright, mathy programming type people there.

    Hey Reload:

This is the type of thread you move to the think tank.

What exactly is the goal of your project? Are you trying to predict line movement/market trends? Looking for arbitrage opportunities?

I might have some time to help in the near future but I'm not sure I understand enough about what you are doing to know if I would be of much use or not. I know little Python but should have little trouble getting up to speed quickly if the project suits.

I'd really like to do a whole host of models.. I'm fairly new to the serious handicapping game and know I have a lot to learn.

Initially I'd like to just create a model that makes markets on matchbook, and tries to cover all bets before the game goes live. Make the spread.. We would probably rely on lines from the major bookkeepers to set our markets on matchbook (especially in the illiquid markets).

I see us looking for trends in more liquid markets and attempting to scalp. (By us, I mean the model)

As far as arbitrage goes, we need a lot of money in a lot of books to really make this effective. I don't see this in the immediate future - but am not ruling it out.

Like I said, I'm new to the game. I'm willing to take this project in any direction there is opportunity. I've only created a base that allows us to access matchbook's market. I understand that's the easy part. (Anyone can program, making money is the hard part).

Sounds like a worthwhile endeavor. I am swamped right now with contract work and updating my own models, but I'll watch this thread and probably get in touch with you in a week or so.

I'm interested in doing this. I'd prefer to code it in perl, but what I was thinking is we could have it mine the data from SBRlines or maybe a paid service(if we make money) and then use those are our "market" numbers. Then drop those numbers by up to 8-16 cents depending on the liquidity of the market. In effect we'd just copy the big books on matchbook. Did you have something else in mind? Not sure how you'd find trends in the matchbook market.

This is indeed what I had in mind, at least to start. You have a PM.

I was talking to a guy a couple years ago who was doing this for small markets. Once, one of the markets he was seeding went live, and his bot continued to seed the market with closing numbers.

Needless to say, it was ugly!

I was doing a little reading and came across a pretty good site that follows an attempt at something similar. http://dynamicnotions.blogspot.com/ I don't think it's exactly what you are doing but I'm guessing there is plenty of info out there to build from.

I a programmer that maybe can help you. I generally compile code for speed rather than scripts. Let me know what you need.

Ouch! I had a similar experience with an early version of my bot for Betfair. I had set it up to seed (back and lay) based on a function of the average odds of the under from 4 books (It was an under/over 2.5 goals - soccer).

About two hours into trading, one of the books stopped offering odds for the market, which my program understood to mean 0% chance of the under.

Needless to say, it was ugly.

We live and learn, thankfully I had learned to properly set exposure limts per market (that´s another story).

Just tried to contact you. AIM is certainly quirky. No idea if it worked, with stupid feedback.

I'd be glad to but Willie Bee has taken away my PM "privileges". Word to the wise folks, Big Brother reads your e-mails.

I only hang here because the Tank is (or was) the best tech forum on the net. Now with Ganch gone, I'm wondering.

Hmm, I don't think it's just you. I was also "banned" for no reason (I rarely exchange PM's with other members here)

It would be great to get a reliable market maker for ingame trading.
