    Default Crazy week for WVU...

Man, this week was so big for WVU in so many ways...

    1. We win the NIT, Frank Young shoots SIXTY NINE PERCENT from beyond the arc in the tournament... talk about seniors stepping up. It was awesome to see him go out with a win.

    2. We are 99% going to lose Beilein which is still killing me. I loved watching WVU basketball like I've never loved basketball before with this guy... both the offense and defense were like poetry in motion. I know Michigan is a bigger name school, but I still don't know why he would want to leave a team he's taken to the elite 8, sweet 16 and NIT championship over the last 3 years with a ton of players returning to go to a team that hasn't made the tourney in 6 years...

I really can't even imagine WVU basketball without Beilein anymore, I know we made the sweet 16 under Catlett but it just won't seem right.

    3. Noel Devine commits. Assuming that he can qualify (big assumption) this could be the most ridiculous backfield ever assembled in college football. You already have arguably the two fastest players in college football now that Ginn is gone with Slaton and Pat White who are both going to be in their 3rd years of starting... You have the big bruiser Owen Schmitt who is probably the best fullback in the country since Leonard is gone (although I hear USC's new guy is pretty sick too).

Last year WVU had the most 40 and 50 yard touchdowns by a HUGE margin (I forget what the numbers were) and now they have 3 guys who can take it the distance every single time they touch the ball...

Now, add Barry Sanders #2 to that equation, and what the hell more can you do? How do you make use of all that talent and speed? If anyone can figure it out, it's Rich Rodriguez...

On the other hand, the offense might just HAVE to be that good since I'm just praying their defense improves to "slightly below average"...

Tough to lose your coach, but Michigan, despite its problems the past 10 years, is still a premier job in college basketball.

I think they are hiring the right coach this time. Last time, they lost out on Pitino and settled for Amaker, who was a bad hire. Amaker had one NCAA season at Seton Hall, and that upset of Temple got him a big job, which he wasn't ready for.

Michigan hasn't been to the tournament since 1997......dead end job for Bielian. Good hire for Michigan, bad coaching move for Bielian....should have stayed at WVU. Much better chance to succeed there than in Ann Arbor.

ADs have been doing well with these hires - Altman and Beilein are both top 10 coaches, IMO, and I give Arkansas and Michigan a lot of credit for hiring them. Lickliter was a good hire as well.

I am curious to see who we get next... it was well known that Beilein recruited to his system getting intelligent, skilled shooters and that wvu is consequently pretty short on athletes, rebounders and true scorers.

Will we get a new coach that runs a similar system or will we get a 'standard' athlete-oriented basketball coach?

I don't really care so long as the new coach has an IDENTITY. I hate watching teams like Cal that have no identity. I don't care if you try to overwhelm the other team with athleticism (Memphis), incredible defense (UCLA), full court pressure (Louisville, Tennessee) or three point shooting or backdoor cuts (Georgetown, WVU) I just need something that I can hang my hat on...

Buddy, how can you say Beilein would have a better chance to succeed at WVU than UM? I know you are a MSU fan, but there is plenty of talent in the state of Michigan for both the Spartans and Wolverines to be very, very good. Look at what Beilein did at WVU with mediocre talent. Now he moves to a team that has had talent in recent years and was just missing the right coach. As a MSU fan, you are well aware that Amaker was just brutal. Now they have one of the better coaches in the country. If he can recruit well (no reason to believe he won't) Michigan should return to being one of the better Big Ten teams every year.

As a UM fan, I am happy they finally are starting to take basketball serious and open their pockets for a terrific coach.

Looks like Altman changed his mind about taking the Arkansas job.

^^ Yeah I agree... this is definitely a better move for him in the long term but for the next 2 years Beilein would've been much more successful at WVU than he would've at UM.

It will take him 2 years to get his players into a system and then he will murk

Shocking that Bill Self wouldn't leave Kansas for Arkansas.

Yeah, I saw the other five names and wondered why they didn't ask Billy Donovan or Avery Johnson.

I agree on this. Michigan was the dominant program in the state from the Bill Freider hire until the Steve Fisher meltdown and corruption a span of about 12 years. Four trips to the NCAA finals in that period.

A good coach will win at Michigan quickly. I expect them in the NCAA's shortly is this WVA coach is the real deal, which everyone thinks he is. Amaker had good enough talent to at least reach the NCAAs a couple of times but his coaching wasn't good enough.
