So you think they have a list of all, big or small. Or do they only want the ones they can profit from. Is this about $$$ or Principle ?

What a novel idea - a government formulating policies on matters on principle rather than chasing the $s.

#One Calvin Ayre #Two Calvin Ayre His imminent arrest will allow a relative calm to come back to the industry. He waved a red flag at the bull, and the bull wants blood. People should know that once he's taken down, any money with Bodog is gone too.

Thats what I figure as well. They want the big guys to set examples with and of course take their earnings.

They want whoever they can get.

Problem is, the person they want must come to a place that will arrest him. As of now, those places are the US and Dominican Republic (The US "paid" the DR to help make arrests years ago.) It would not surprise me to see Canada added to this list eventually.

Anyways, the US would be happy to arrest any offshore bookies, but they only have so much money budgetted to it and one of the problems is figuring out who owns the books. The BOS were easy, they bragged, and had a prospectus. Calvin would be easy. Everyone knows him. Neteller was easy, they had a prospectus. WSEX was easy, they were in the Wall Street Journal discussing their business. It is not so easy to get the names of other owners if they are private companies. Many owners go by fake names.

Further the government wants easy convictions. Prospectuses and WSJ articles are easy evidence. It is much much harder for the gov to produce records of betting from foreign servers from past years when there is no easy evidence.

Thus, if you are a known offshore bookie who has readily admitted it in print, you are a target. If you are public you are a target.

You would be best served to stay out of the US and Dom Rep.

I advise these off shore bookies to go somewhere where the U.S. isn't going to pay off the government, like Argentina, Brazil, France, Iran, etc. I would for sure stay out of countries that are buddies with the U.S.

If I was an offshore bookie, I would be sitting on the beach in Antigua right now. I can't see any reason to be elsewhere.

I dont think Calvin is on the top of the list. He is trying but there is just not enough meat on the bone. Calvin stayed away from credit and the heavy add-ons a-la BoS. They could get any of them like they got Jay from WSEX. But thats a simple low level felony with a max sentence of 2 years. I think they have their sights set higher.

Interesting. So who do you think they want. What type of books/ owners ?

It's hard to speculate what the DOJ "wants". The scenario where the big fish are gone after, but smaller books are left alone is hard to imagine, but it could wind up like that. I guess that's what the situation is with drugs/drug dealers. What will happen with the WTO and if a Democrat is elected President? Who knows. It should be interesting and unpleasant to see how it all plays out.

    Chano,
Well as others have said and I agree, they are all targets. But as to your question, I think they are looking for "gambling plus". The plus being some other illegal activety. Credit is one that crosses state lines sometimes and has the element of strong arm collections. The plus could also be trying to avoid taxes and failing to declare offshore accounts. So the "pluses" are somewhat limited to US citizens. Also, guys like Tej, who is not a US citizen, may be a target simply because of past brushes. They are known by the DoJ and that could make them an easier target.

As I understand it Antigua is very selective with who they accept or there would be more books there. I've heard of a couple 'big boys' that were allegedly turned away by Antigua.

Also heard it's a tough place to live. Very nice, but very small.

It's also a Continuing Criminal Enterprise, with Calvin as Kingpin. He always wanted to be king of something. He won't like the 20 year minimum that comes with it.

Exactly. Gambling plus is the best description I have ever seen of who gets picked and who doesn't.
