Default Joe Theismann Fired From The MNF coverage

Surely I can't be the only one happy to hear Theismann won't be broadcasting the MNF games anymore.

After one season as the lead analyst for “Monday Night Football” on ESPN, Joe Theismann will be dismissed and replaced by Ron Jaworski, the network is scheduled to announce today. Theismann is expected to be offered another job at the network.

He had also been ESPN’s analyst on “Sunday Night Football” from 1988 to 2005. Replacing Theismann with Jaworski, who is known for his ESPN studio work but not for booth analysis, means exchanging one former quarterback with another. Jaworski, 56, played for the Eagles, and Theismann, 57, played for the Redskins.

It the second change for ESPN’s on-air crew since it acquired the rights to “Monday Night.” At first, Al Michaels was to be the play-by-play announcer, but he was released from his contract before he called a game in order to join NBC. Mike Tirico then replaced Michaels, and he joined Tony Kornheiser, the Washington Post columnist and co-host of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption,” and Theismann.

Although the first season of “Monday Night” on ESPN was its least viewed ever after 36 seasons on ABC — falling by more than four million a game — it was an unqualified success as a cable series, increasing ESPN’s viewership by 41 percent over the audience for “Sunday Night Football” in 2005.

I wasn't crazy about Theismann's commentaries; I can't say that I'm sorry to see him going. I think Jaworski is a good replacement. He's also a pretty good capper as well.

Are you kidding me... He is maybe the best on tv.. He is honest and he doesn't suck anyone d*ck.. If someone does something stupid or f*cks up he doesn't sugar coat anything not to mention he knows his football very well.... I like when he says after a bad call.. "you know that just SUCKS!!!"... He's awsome and I am very sorry to see him go... I lived for the Sunday Night Games with Mike Patrick and Joe T... Best two hands down... The only time I got irriratated by them was when they rode Micheal Vick so f*uckin hard a few years ago my god... I'll miss you Joe T. "them firing you just SUCKS"..

This is good to hear he was horrible in the booth. He offered little to no insight and provided nothing of substance to the broadcast except for his name, Jaws actually breaks down trends of teams and I am looking forward to see how he does.

Theismann was horrible. Like JD said above, he added very little to the commentary and never let you forget that he played.

I will agree though that he wasn't afraid to question the officials which some guys in the booth are.

I totally disagree on his insight... Jaws is good but he also is in the studio when he does the break down... Joe T. is very very good at looking at all angles of the game not just X's and O's... He does talk about when he played but so do most of them and so would you... I think he tries to give you a sense of how the game has changed and since we or at least I can remember his days then I understand more when he compares yesterday and today... People don't realize how much the players have changed the game..they say they do but they really don't... Jerry Rice's age is not as big of a deal as the competition being that much better then when he was a rookie... When Rice was a rookie guys like Jack Lambert was just retiring and his body in it's form when he played could not hold the cable for the coaches wire sets much less play in the NFL with guys like Ray Lewis there now... Lewis looks like a mutant next to Lambert...

I am not a fan of this move at all, not that I liked Theisman particularly. But Jaworski is the last guy I want to hear announcing a football game. In the studio, when he is prepared, he is decent, I guess. But this is the guy who picked the Chiefs to win the SB about five years in a row - remember, he always carried around that stupid "Super Bowl Playbook" or whatever the queer name was that he gave it - and they never even made the playoffs.
But, maybe he'll surprise me. At worst, I mute the TV and listen to music.

I don't know why people hate Joe so much... He can say whatever he wants to say as long as I'm on the right side.
