Default Third Continuance in Neteller Case Granted

Third Continuance in Neteller Case Granted

    March 17, 2007

A court contact told Gambling 911 that the US government will ask for another extension during today's hearing involving NETeller co-founders Stephen Lawrence and John LeFebvre.

This would be the third time the matter has been rescheduled.

Lawyers for the two Canadians, who are out on $5 Million bail following their arrests this past January, are likely to be upset if the government seeks yet another extension. And their comments will be for all the public to hear, as a significant media presence is expected to gather at the courthouse today.

The two founders were arrested on a charge of conspiracy to transfer funds with the intent to promote illegal gambling.

Speculation that the government could drop its case against NETeller was strong enough Wednesday and Thursday to boost online gaming stocks Wednesday.

The court clerk's office told Gambling911.com Thursday afternoon that "The government is going to get another continuance tomorrow (Friday)."

It was not clear that the court would grant this third proposed extension.

Online poker players trying to get frozen funds out of Neteller have been told their funds are being held as part of evidence in the Neteller case. So another continuance means that their funds would continue to be prevented from being released by the government.

Neither party is in a hurry here. Probably a deal in the works. I'd put the O/U on these Continuances at 5 1/2 -115.

5 1/2?? I'd say more like 14... This will go on well more than a year.

These cowards can't wait to rat everyone out, pay some money, etc to stay out of jail. These euro-weenie gaming operators leeching off US prosperity make me sick. They make a few hundred million off of us, then immediately start turning everyone in.

Lovely group, these Eurotrash types getting rich off Americans, not paying taxes and throwing us under a bus.

    SBRJohn,

I agree that your right there is probably a deal to be made here and then it is done. I don't think the U.S. has much of a case here with Neteller and they know it.

regardless of how this case unfolds, still have a feeling that customers with money still in there will get ripped off...

Sharp post, NeedProtection. Damn those euro-weenie countries for bringing about legislation to hold gaming related companies to ransom.
