Advertising. But only the most reputable books can advertise.

That doesn't mean the system is perfect, but I don't think you will find a better one. SBR will throw out books if they no longer meet the standard. Last year the WWTS banner was immediately removed when trouble started, while other sites kept it up.

Critics are good even if some are posters who work for other books or other websites. The proof of quality is not something you trade on after a few good years. Its a daily mission and if there were no chano's there would not be balance and the point could be forgotten.

As to the question at hand, SBR does sell advertising to sportsbooks on 2 of its 3 sites. Books can't buy ratings, they are free and everyone gets one. We do try to do things right and have a staff of 20 that constantly double checks each other.

The model is fairly simple. Create a center piece site such as Sportsbookreview.com which creates the traffic and build high quality sites, such as the one you are on, around that center piece.

guys, SBR is the best in the industry at being watchdogs...yes, they are still working on non-biased opinions of books, but sean, Bill and John do us players a great service and I for one appreciate it it...

I think their model is a combination protect players (while offering up some sweet contests), while collecting money through advertising legit books...

SBR is by far the best in monitoring the online sports gaming industry...it's not even close and every other watchdog group is competing for second place. By and large, SBR works to provide players with as much information as possible about the books and makes recommendations based on their own travels and experiences with the books, financial track record of the books, number of complaints, and longevity of the book. Even so, the advertising part is a sticky situation. As i've pointed out in several other threads and posts, I've presented an honest and sensitive critique about the problems of accepting money from books. It can certainly be a problem when one tries to reconcile concepts like independence/autonomy yet is dependent on advertising as a major source of revenue from the same people you are suppose to critique. Similar to a politician who accepts large funds from lobby groups....

However, to SBR's credit, they are selective and quick to drop any book that has problems or is no longer deemed safe to players. The books they promote have an unbelievable track record of high quality gaming services and you should feel 100% safe with any of the above banner sportsbooks. In addition, they offer a free line service and have helped retrieve hundreds of thousands of dollars of players' money from rouge books at no charge....not to mention they offer a number of seasonal contests and a forum to hang out at.

As people who gamble online, we should be thankful for the services SBR provides and we owe them a large debt of gratitude for all the things they do....I don't think people, even on here, understand just how hard the SBR staff works to provide the services they do.

As Buddy and others have correctly pointed out there is an inherent conflict of interest when those you are reviewing are also supporters of the business.

This concept or model is not unique. Standard and Poors rates corporate debt and charges the companies to do so.

The key to making the concept work is the people behind it and a culture that says if we do things right the financial end will take care of itself. Sometimes I’m amused when I read elsewhere how much we make. But we have by far the highest paid staff and highest operating costs which tends to be left off.

The poster's question about the model should note that this is a very expensive ongoing business to operate. Some believe there are few expenses in a website business and for many that would be true. If you are thinking of opening a website business you would want to start one that had as few ongoing expenses as possible.

I agree, great post buddy. I do agree that John visits lots of books but did you notice after each visit that the book gets an upgrade $$$$$$$$$$$$.
