Default Just getting this out of the way...Iowa Hawkeyes

    3rd string RB
2nd string QB (really 3rd string Jake Christianson transferred)
Ferentz son is suspended for the year informally...
OL Bulga or w/e lost 35lb's in the hospital for his 3 week stay.
Greenwood QB of the secondary out

Iowa had a good run, they lived on borrowed time, they won some close games, had some exciting 4th quarters, can't ask for more than the game coming down to the wire with chances to win.

Iowa is going down this week. Don't be surprised when the hawks finish 10-2.

oh really, they're gona finish 10-2 and we shouldn't be surprised? strong statement considering they already have one loss and now they are 17 pt underdogs at ohio st and w/out stanzi at qb

Actually, the injuries are even worse then you have stated.

The HAWKEYES have had an amazing year!!

No excuses though, injuries are part of football and I'm sure they will give their best possible effort Saturday.

I laid -13.5 on the Buckeyes.

People actually considered them for the national championship...reality checks are needed.

Tempting to buy back at +17.5, no? Looks like a solid middle to me. I keep hearing how banged up Iowa is, but since when did OSU develop a high octane offense to cover this large spread against a solid defensive team. Iowa's offense sucked before the injuries. How much worse could these back-ups be?

OSU is going to have at least 2 defensive touchdowns so if their offense can score at least 3 times they'll cover teh 17.5 easy. Iowa won't make it within 20 yards of the end zone.

    Iowa's 3rd string qb=iowa's 1st string qb= terrell prior.

    Iowa's defense=ohio state's defense.

Ohio State wins by 10...Iowa covers...they'll cover vs conservative tressel

If you wager on a team covering because of defensive scores, you lose. Defensive scores are nice, but can not be counted on.

As far as Iowa is concerned, who says that they are a lock to finish at 10-2. They still have Minny to dealwith at home. Now even with the injuries Iwoa should win that game, but how down will they be after two straight losses and seeing their BCS Bowl hopes go up in smoke? Minny should be fighting for a decent bowl game.

If Iowa defeats Minny they still have an outside shot at getting an ORANGE BOWL bid at 10-2.............

Marvin McNutt(talented WR who caught game winner vs MSU) is a former QB and was recruited as such.

DO NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE THE HAWKEYES OPERATE SOME TYPE OF WILDCAT OFFENSE WITH HIM.

This is true. It all depends on what USC does. If they run the table, they will go to the Fiesta Bowl, unless Oregon takes a complete crap (and that has been done before in the Pac 10). So does the Orange Bowl Committee, who has first shot at the at-large teams take TCU, Cincy or Iowa? If they take Iowa, Boise State is screwed, because the Fiesta Bowl will take either TCU or Cincy and the Sugar Bowl automatically gets the other team. If they take Cincy, like may expect, will the Fiesta take Iowa for another Big 10-Pac 10 match-up, or do they go for the undefeated Boise State or TCU teams? If you recall, this happened once before, in the Orange Bowl. The exact same two teams were involed. USC vs Iowa.

.........and Iowa sent 70,000+ fans to Miami, 50,000+ to the actual game.

I will never forget talking to a member of the Orange Bowl committee the night before the game....he told me if they ever have a chance at inviting Iowa back to Miami, it will be a no-brainer as he stated he has not seen ANY team travel to the Orange Bowl as well as Iowa...........not even teams that are remotely closer to the Miami area.

What do they make football's out of ?

And Iowa got run out of the stadium in the 2nd half by USC. Iowa will not get an Orange Bowl invite because as well as their fans travel, they are not an entertaining team. A Ga. Tech-Cincinnati match-up would draw a much bigger T.V. audience because of the offensive fireworks that would be guaranteed in that game. You can forget the Orange Bowl. Iowa is boring. Now the Fiesta Bowl is a different story. Do they want the possibility of yet another Big 10 team getting stomped by a Pac 10 team? Remember, the Rose Bowl is played first, and Oregon certainly has the team that can run any Big 10 team out of the staduim. The Big 10 is so slow compared to the Pac 10. Wpuld they invite TCU because they are undefeated? Would they invite Boise State for the same reason, plus the fact that they have before? A lot depends on how bad Iowa looks against Ohio State. Remember, Ohio State has already lost to USC, at home, so if Iowa gets run out of the stadium, it will not bode well for them.

Iowa is the most overrated team in the country with USC following closely second.

I know that iowa at one time was mentioned in the national title race but I think more than anything that mention was merely good press. I don't think anyone who actually understands the game of football ever thought Iowa was actually a contender. The close wins are indicative of winning programs but the circumstances in which some of those close wins came about were also examples of good fortune.

I like the team. I like their toughness and determination but I never thought nor do I imagine many ever thought they ACTUALLY had national title chances.

The thing is though a bowl is much more concerned with how many fans attend their game and their city............much more money involved.

The game may indeed draw a tad less of an audience on TV nationally, but that is a small consideration considering how many fans Iowa sends to Miami...........

I will state this right now though, I DON'T THINK IOWA WILL SEND NEARLY AS MANY FANS AS THEIR LAST ORANGE BOWL APPEARANCE, FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS.

    1. This team is not as good

    2. Many fans had never been to Miami before and thus will not want to go again

    3. Iowa is ending the year on a sour note.

Still, Iowa would be very, very well represented in Miami, as much as any other team.

ANOTHER thing is Iowans make it a 2-3 day stay in Miami, whereas fans of say GT only make it a one day trip.........which means less money for the city. Plus, Iowans drink and spend much more money then your average fan, as most are complete alcoholics.

Ga Tech Cincy would draw a bigger TV audience than Iowa USC? I've heard it all now. Iowa was a lot faster than Arizona this year and a hell of a lot faster than South Carolina last year. Who is saying they are a national contender? No one in Iowa, including the coaches, thought they were a national contender.
