Default High School Basketball 'You make the call' CHARGE or NO CHARGE?

Do you think the Lady Olympian charged before she made the game winning 3-point shot? The questionable play is at the 1:22 mark of the video.

Not as easy of a charge call as it looks, but still have to make the call! Offensive player definitely plowed her over with an elbow extended! Defensive player had position but really moved forward while doing it! Good sell job but she still didn't get the call!

Great no call. Defensive player did a nice job trying to sell it, but you can't jump into position as the offensive player is coming forward. Could have gone either way, better to have a no call at the end of the game.

Dreams shattered: South Bend Washington wins state crown over East 84-64

    By Tyler Hoeppner
    Sports Reporter

INDIANAPOLIS - The color of the ribbons was not what the Columbus East girls basketball team wanted, and the size of the trophy was not as big, but the season was still a success.

Unfortunately for East, it just didn't end the way the team had hoped.

The school's fourth trip to the state finals netted the same result as its first three appearances.

The Olympians (24-3) failed in their bid to win the program's first state title, falling to South Bend Washington 84-64 Saturday in the Class 4A final at Conseco Fieldhouse.

As the Columbus East girls basketball team accepted its medals at center court, sadness and disappointment filled the players' faces. But hope for the future with a young team remains.

In her final game as an Olympian, Shelby Ross scored a team-high 25 points to go with 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Yes, it was an offensive foul, she pushed off. Shot should not have counted.

some lady's in the way of the angle, but i don't know how that's not an offensive foul. but i don't know how women's high school basketball is called either, especially at crunch time. i know when i was playing competitive baseball at 12 we got pulled if we looked at a third strike because the zone opened up so much after 2 strikes. we were supposed to swing at anything close or be benched. that doesn't necessarily apply to other levels of baseball, so maybe the no call is a normal function of the women's high school game.

Can not really tell from the angle whether the defender was set in time or not. Looks like she jumped in and got hit almost simultaniously.

Her feet are set, player catches the ball and leads towards the basket with the elbow out.

    Feet set, that's a charge.

offensive player lowered her shoulder and intiated contact...
defensive players feet werent set but did beat the offensive player to the spot
    could have gone either way

If she wasn't set, she sure was 95% there.

She had nearly perfect position and got hit, good play by the defender!

General, speaking as a coach i would say noway is it a charge. If I am the coach of the defensive player and a ref called a charge there I would gladly accept it but my look would tell you instantly we just got a gift there. I am the coach of the shooter and if a charge had been called there I would be ejected.
The defender had not established position. The shooter has every right to any place on the floor not position has not yet been established in.
NOW with the elbow being extended it would not have been out of the realm of posibilities for a push-off to have been called. In that situation though with the time running out and a game winning shot attempt you would be hard pressed to find an official who would make a call there. About the only way you would is in the case of the official having prejudice towards either of the teams. having an unknown stake in the outcome or the very potential, young, cocky wanting to be the main focus rookie type official. Option #3 however is unlikely since this was not a regular season situation.
So no, it was not a charge.

The angle is a bit blocked out...but if the hit is chest to chest then it's a no-call.

Certainly looks like she pushed off with the forearm (can't see how much she threw her arm because of the blockout) which should be called a charge. Not many refs would have the balls (or virtual balls as the case may be) to make that call in the final seconds.
