Default What improvements at SBRForum would you like to see?

We are dedicated to giving you the players what you want. So tell us what we can do to make the time you spend here more interesting and entertaining.

I say we have more straight-up cash contests.

Bill would like to see posters set-up their own poll and ratings by voting.

We have upgraded hardware but is the forum fast enough? I think we need fewer banners.

Put on your JJ Gold SBR CEO cap and give us your two cents. (maybe ban JJ Gold )

Banning JJ would be a major mistake! His post put a little humor in here besides at times if you read through the bs,he actually makes some sharp observations.

Forums owners have banned me in the past and then realized their sites were crippled and then had to unban me so not is not going to work.

I might be one of the top 5 sharpest guys on any forum combined, know the industry bettor than any of these nit wit portal owners.

I've been saying that for months. Big changes coming to that section by the end of March. I sure hope that is part of it.

We are aware of when the season started. Arena football odds are currently up on the HTML version of SBR Odds and will be live on the Flash version Monday.

Might be a small improvement but when you login to the forum the "PLAYERS TALK" forum should be @ the very top instead of scrolling halfway down the page....this is by far the most visited forum @ SBR

Only thing I can think of right now, which I assume will never happen, is to see SBR branch out, and develop a separate sportsbook. An independent company, but with the backing and industry knowledge of SBR. (I love just about everything about gambling, but if I had a choice I would rather own a casino).

And maybe more emphasis on European books and sports, including soccer on SBR Odds.

Most of those contests are for chump change.

Instead of adding contests, just add prize money to BTP.

I like that Idea myself DH.

Why not turn the BTP contest into sorta like the superbowl of contests on any forum out there, and scrap the smaller contests like you suggested.

Sharp post and not a bad idea to boot. Soccer odds and stats sites are reasonably popular. Perhaps not with Yanks, but with the R.O.W. You could even kiss and make up with Pinnacle, who seem to making a concerted effort into this arena.

Taco should be a mod, give taco a job. JJ too.

Oh and i would love to see all of Ganch's work (Kelly staking, spreadsheets and his tools) in a seperate area. Their's gold in 'dem postings and it is quite the pain to have to rumage through the forum to find the required info each and every time i get confused (which can be quite often). Or perhaps Ganch would be good enough to organise something along these lines.

    More porn

    Just some thoughts.

    1) Near line-service quality injury information. I still think SBR Odds could be a huge traffic-draw if it were anywhere close to the pay services, and it is very close--except with respect to injury info. Of course I'm less sure than I was six months ago about how SBR Odds can be monetized.

    2) New product: SBR800. A toll free line to an office in Costa Rica where an SBR rep would walk callers through the mechanics of setting up a sportsbook account, as well as explain the hazards and benefits of doing so and listen to customer's who have experienced depositing snafus (not necessarily with the sportsbook). I'm sure there are a lot of guys who have never used ** or sent a wire, and the only reason they don't do so is that they don't quite know what to expect. To be able to talk to someone who could explain exactly what would happen, what the fees would be, how to use the tracking number what an SAR is and so on could be a profitable way of making the valuable info on this website coherent to a caller's particular concerns.

2.5) Also, because the conditions for even the simplest kind of transactions are ever-changing in this business, the person taking these calls could be a valuable forum facilitator. He or she could post, "A guy called who tried to do a ** for $1500. Usually what happens is this, but in his case this happened. I called the ** CS and their rep told me this. Anybody have any ideas about what might be going on here?" In some ways that's what already happens at SBR, but throwing in the posting ombudsman who daily talks with bettors and potential bettors would make information happen more quickly and efficiently. Now more than ever no one has the answers in this industry, and that means the most valuable forum will be the one that works hardest to keep asking the consumers' questions.

    3) What ever happened to the idea of hiring a San-Jose based writer to report on the state of the industry?

SBR hiring a beat reporter for the offshore sportsbook industry.

You are right about one thing, some of these forum owners are complete morons. Pretending to know about the industry when in reality they know as much as anyone who frequently reads the forums..

    Seconded.

My long sabattical from here last year had to do with a couple of things -- but the biggest one was The Great One.

The folks who take some pride in what they post can only take so much of this stuff before they begin to wonder if it's worth it.

DH, As you know I don't ban anyone at all. Besides If anyone needs to be ban at all, it's up to the boys in the office to determine that not us mods.

I doubt this is possible- but id like to see a dynamic chart display showing Pinnacle action percentages for spread, ML, and total- the way sportsbook.com does. Vegas insider carries that feed as well. If someone could convince Pinny to supply this info to Sbr I feel it would be a valuable instrument. Much more valuable then just line changes alone.

I'd also like to see more Tacomax, with new enhanced powers.

I appreciate that. But I clearly see the names of a number of moderators below each section of this forum. And I believe I have yet to see any of them in action in that capacity. In a way that is nice, because you don't see the good referees. But there are times when a line needs to be drawn. Example: Jamie_UK is obviously out to annoy people. Has he been given one single indication by a moderator to watch his behavior?

This thread is about quality and what might be done to improve it. So, to improve and protect the quality of this forum, it needs to be moderated. Laid-back works with adults but not necessarily with small children, and unfortunately some people never mentally outgrow that stage.

The ignore button by itself does not solve the problem, because threads easily get hijacked. Don't think that one little rat can't ruin the place. Some of the pillars of the old statfox forum left and never returned when nothing was done about a certain character for far too long. I'm also aware of a very well moderated forum, where the atmosphere is light (not talking about policing) and streamlined, and everyone treats each other with respect. It's just a choice.

Bottomline is that almost everyone here is trying to add their insight to help make this place better. So when someone comes in who is clearly intent on making it worse, that's a slap in the face of everyone else. That's a no-no. Plain and simple.

    Hi.

In the Basketball Hadicapping Forum, have sub-folders (NBA / College Basketball). Instead of all under Basketball.

    Thanks

I know I tend to err on the side of free expression. I believe that the other moderators generally feel the same way. That doesn't mean we'll ignore problem situations, but rather that we'll attempt to allow conflicts to naturally resolve themselves within the marketplace of ideas.

Every single one of us has diverted threads, moved posts, and issue warnings. Willie Bee and Sean have certainly banned his fair share of people, as well. But I think we all want to be careful not to stifle ideas just because we may think them foolish.

There is a "report post" button on the left side of every forum post. This is rarely used my forum members, except to occasionally report spam. My advice, however, would be that if you find a particular post objectionable for any reason, you should report it with a brief description of your rationale. (Don't abuse this, though .. this can and will be taken away from those who do). This will give us a good idea of what people on the forum are specifically thinking. The idea isn't to just report people you don't like, but rather to report very specific problems. This is a positive step that can be taken by everyone.

If you don't like something speak out about it specifically. It's much easier for us to respond to specific complaints and then extrapolate to larger, more general issues than in it is to field very general complaints (which are nevertheless still appreciated) such as "you guys need to moderate more".

This section, Players Talk now has general discussion and posts about bookies in it, which is a bit chaotic.

How about making two sections, one for general discussion and one for posts only about bookies and payment options like Moneybookers and Neteller?

I have had a warning actually, not that you will know as you have me (thankfully) on ignore.

I would like to see more of a "World view" here and the recognition that just because something is wrong with the USA' approach to gaming it does not necessarily affect the rest of the World.

Take Neteller for an example, the population of Europe is similar to the population of the USA, so just get a grip and realize that comments like "netteler is screwed" are wrong and lack thought, its symptomatic of Americans to assume that just because something does not work in the States then its "screwed" , the reality is a populous the same size of yours is happily using neteller with no problems.

Also, take on board the fact that books are not charging $60 for payments, they are charging Americans $60 for payments, its not a sportsbook problem, its a problem for a minority of users in the USA, who live in a country that does not consider its citizens freedom to do as they please with their money to be paramount.

Ganch, I've been about as specific as I want to be; without stepping on -too many- toes. I believe Jay Edgar was pretty specific as well.

I understand the underlying philosophy of letting problems work itself out. From what I've seen at different forums through the years, this approach opens the door to much unnecessary conflict. On the other hand, forums that nip conflict in the bud, in my experience, are more streamlined and positive. Not even close.

Nobody likes to weed. But it's easier to get 'm when they're small.
