Its possible Ellsbury could command one of the biggest contracts since A -Rod

I know teams are over giving out huge contracts but I def see a team going head over heals for this guy.

complete game changer when healthy. doubt he gets anything crazy like those 10 year contracts but can easily see him getting 25 mill a year.

who gets him? Red Sox resign? or let em go?

any team that pays him more than 10 million a year without lots of conditions deserve to fail. but this is mlb and he will probably get 20 million a year.

I know what I said earlier about position players and overpaying, but given what he could bring to the table compared to their needs, I go after him hard if I'm Detroit.

Mets are said to be making a huge push for him.
They love overpaying for guys who have career years (Bonilla, Jason Bay, Johan, Beltran).

Look who wins titles pitching not ballplayers

You could have AAA players and top-flight picthers you have a very good shot to advance very deep into the playoffs

Hate comparing him to crawford because of how overrated I always thought he was. But they are similar to when Crawford was in his prime.
I think Elsbury stays solid and consistent with his numbers, although his injuries/health are gonna be a risk.
He is also a great leader in that clubhouse.

A rods contract worked out well.

    A rods contract was horrible.

Take a lap and rethink this.

    Nah, not even close.

He will sign a 5 year, 90 mill range contract. Being injury prone keeps him from anything longer or more than this.

As you said, this is MLB - and in MLB, you can't put "lots of conditions" into a player's contract. You can have a few minor incentive clauses (winning MVP, winning World Series) but you cannot put clauses that say the player has to appear in X number of games, or have such-and-such an OPS or whatever.

Not a great leader actually, though better this year has been known to be a keeps to himself for the most part type. Injury prone and one of these years teams have to realize the mega bucks long term deals for position players are not worth the risk. That being said, 5 Years max is what I would do, 100 Mil.

he will get at least a 8 year contract with minimum 20M a year. Still only 30 years old and as you said guy is definitely a game changer when healthy and he is the type of guy you want batting in the top of your lineup. Just hope Mets aren't too desperate to get him and don't break the bank for him. We all remember what happened the last time a big free agent came over from the Red Sox to the Mets.

actually Pedro coming over to the Mets kinda turned the franchise around for a few years and got them to the NLCS and a division championship. even though it lead to a ton of collapses, there was some good times in there.

the Pedro signing was a success IMO.

Pedro was on the DL that year, they won the divison but he got them to sign Beltran, then El Duque came over, Carlos Delgado, Wright, Reyes and Kaz Matsui (that infield was stacked), outfield was Belran, Cliff Floyd (member him, he was a fkn beast at times) Shawn Green, platooned, Xavier Nady, Endy Chavez (greatest post season catch ever) and the biggest hyped bust Mets prospect in history, Lastings Milledge.

oh and can't forget about Paul LoDuca, Tommy Glavine, Billy Wagner

ah the good ole days of the Mets

yea read my edit..forgot about LoDuca, Glavine and Billy Wagner.

they had tying runs on base in game 7 of NLCS in 9th with Beltran up and Wainwright dropped that nasty hook for strike 3 and Beltran never took bat off his shoulders. thought people were gonna burn down the stadium. thought the stadium was gonna come down as well when Chavez robbed that HR and then doubled off runner at first. never experienced a stadium shake like that. still get goosebumps thinking about it.

I heard the Cubs were hot for him.

Tired of rebuilding, time to make some moves.
