Default [OFF TOPIC] If you could bring back one cancelled TV show

I think I would choose Arrested Development. I used to like it when it was a regular show but I didn't appreciate it enough. They kept screwing around with its timeslot so I would lose track of it. Then it was gone.

They recently started re-running it on a local channel so I have been watching it from start to finish and really seeing the day-in day-out madness. Brilliant show IMO. And, unlike a lot of shows that hang around too long and get stale, AD went out at its peak.

But it was probably too quirky and subtle and fast-paced for a mainstream TV audience that likes its jokes simple and telegraphed from a million miles away.

But who knows? They brought back Family Guy.

    Welcome Back, Kotter
Gabe Kotter, formerly a Sweathog, returns to James Buchanan High as a teacher and is assigned the remedial class to which he once belonged. Mr. Kotter is an involved and caring teacher, which one would have to be in dealing with a certain four students in his class, who end up in trouble on a regular basis -- lady's man Vinnie Barbarino, the always cool Freddie "Boom-Boom" Washington, the tough Juan (Luis Pedro Phillipo de Huevos) Epstein, and the sheepish Arnold Dingfelder Horshack.

Arrested development for sure. I would tivo every episode. Great show with amazing cast and writers. I still will pop in the dvds every now and then to have a good laugh.

I was enjoying the series "Daybreak" recently starring Taye Diggs, but it was pulled after 6 or 7 episodes. Personally, I thought it was pretty interesting, but obviously my view was in the minority. Probably nobody had time to see it, but basically it was about a guy living the same day over and over. Would have liked to have seen why this was happening to him......

    Arrested Development

it is hilarious, went out before its time, and is conducive to multiple watches...

Toss up between Soap, Northern Exposure and Whose Line Is It Anyway? (at least I don't think they're making any new Whose Line's)

On the drama side, I would vote for Homicide: Life on the Street.

It was on the air for a long time and it went through many cast changes - I kept expecting it to start getting stale - but it never really did. Unlike a formula show like Law and Order, it had style and character development and a lot more humor.

If anything, it's surprising it lasted as long as it did. It was too good for TV.

Munchies on Fuse tv. An excellent show for the people who enjoy stoned slacker TV.

Sports Night, a fantastic show from Aaron Sorkin (West Wing, Studio 60). Probably my favorite show of all time, only ran two seasons because its target demographic (people who like witty banter, storylines with morals, etc.) didn't watch it because they thought it was about sports, and people who watched it because they thought it was about sports--well--found out it wasn't.

It won "best show you're not watching" 2 years in a row, then it died.

Mr. Woodman was probably the best one in this show IMO

The female lead was smoking hot. Moon Bloodgood. ABC was supposed to show the final 7 episodes online but they haven't appeared yet.

Last I saw on "Day Break" the female lead was also being held bound and gagged. Would like to see more of that scene and how it turned out.

Here's a question (this is not a trivia question; I don't know the answer):

Other than Family Guy, has there ever been a show that was cancelled and brought back?

Taxi is the only one I can think of, Mud. It really didn't miss time, but was picked up by one network after CBS cancelled it. Can't recall if it was ABC or NBC that picked it back up now.

Called the Mrs who is a TV trivia nut. She said that Cagney & Lacey was picked back up after it had been off for a season. It's the only one she can think of that was actually cancelled and brought back by the same network, CBS.

PS - - Wanted to add that there's something about a woman with duct tape over her mouth that really turns me on

There's actually been many. Most recently, "Jag" was canceled after season 1 by NBC and was picked up by CBS as a mid-season replacement. The female lead, Tracey Needham, decided to bail on the show and was replaced by Catherine Bell. Show then ran for 8 years with great ratings on CBS, and Needham's career tanked.

"All in the Family" was actually canceled by CBS after its first season, but some CBS executive's wife insisted to her husband to keep the show on the air. Rest is history.

"Get Smart" was also canceled by NBC and picked up for one more season by CBS.

Same with Step by Step. Canceled when ABC dumped the TGIF idea, picked up by WB I believe for 1 or 2 more seasons.

But yeah, I don't know of any others that went on multiple year hiatuses only to be brought back in full form. Doubt that could happen in most live action shows (the actors move on to other projects), only animated ones that have smaller casts.

I thought that show was hysterical in the first couple of seasons, then it kinda went flat and was canceled kinda quickly. I used to have the major hots for Lynn Tanner (Andrea Elson).
