Indiana and NW have both spoiled seasons in the past against Iowa(not to the magnitude they could do this time), so the Hawkeyes better come to play in both of those games or they could find themselves losing one or both of them, even though they will be two digit favorites in both.

Make no mistake about it, if Iowa runs the table the remainder of the regular season, they are a favorite to be playing in the title game.

I don't think Iowa will be more then a 7 point underdog at Ohio State........which in turn would not make them +300 or more on the ML.

This is if they do not lose before that or have a significant injury on their hands.

At number one in the computor polls, yes they are overrated.

However, feel they are underrated at #8 in the Harris and Coaches polls.

I have them ranked #6 currently in my poll.

not necessarily. if the sec champ and texas are both 13-0 (they both have the 13th gm because of conf champ gm), then iowa will be left out due to lack of strength of schedule (sec and big-12 have higher conf ratings so this helps sec and big-12 champ if texas).

A bright spot for Hawkeye fans is this team returns Nine starters on the defensive side of the ball next season, as well as a host of skill position players on offense, including but not limited to their top three running backs(Wegher, Robinson, Hampton) and their QB Stanzi.

On top of that they return P Ryan Donahue, a probable RAY GUY FINALAST this season and also have what would appear to be an easier schedule next season then the one they entertained this season.

With all of the above, look for the Hawkeyes to be right back in the title picture come again next season and should be ranked in most top ten polls to start the season.

i have followed big-10 football closely for 20 yrs. iowa is the type of team with the type of athletes that thrive on being the underdog, having low expectations. see the drew tate yrs where they won double digit gms when no one expected them to do anything, then won 7 gms when expectations where laid upon them. i believe next yr the expectations will be too high and they will stumble, just like always happens. they dont get blue-chip recruits so they thrive on being the dog. just ask ole miss how being the favorite and not the dog has worked out (i called that by the way in the august)

It will be very hard to live up to expectations, especially when they lose some very good OL and the two defensive starters they do lose are two stud linebackers, Angerer and Edds.

Thus, I agree with your post.

Just give me an Iowa national championship this season and I will be content with Iowa going 7-5 next season...........

thats just it, mike, they havent been here much. even hayden fry did not take them to places like this. in 2002 they had quite a run then went to the orange bowl and got straight up BITCH SLAPPED by usc. they wont beat a great team, not good enough, but they are scrappy........ohio state awaits in a couple of weeks, look the fukk out

Iowa can't make the title game if Texas and an SEC team goes undefeated due to the extra game both conferences play for their conference Championship... The BIG 10 doesn't have this extra game and thus won't get in an undefeated team ahead of an undefeated Texas or SEC team, bank on it.

    A few points.......

That 2002 team was never ranked in the top three I don't believe......maybe #5 tops. Iowa played them fairly even in the 1st half(think they were down 4?)........and Iowa lost all everything BOB SANDERS for the 2nd half and we all know what he means to a defense........BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT, USC WAS THE BETTER TEAM THAT NIGHT, NO EXCUSES.

Hayden had Iowa at #1 a few times, most notably after they defeated Michigan in a battle of #1 against #2.

Lastly, Iowa has had some great teams prior to the Hayden Era, and actually won a mythical national championship in the late 50's.

    Re-read my post

If Iowa wins out they WOULD BE A FAVORITE to play in the title game............what I'm saying is if you give Iowa that scenario right now today(going undefeated), they would be a favorite to go becuase right now if this were a line on Texas going undefeated the remainder of the season they would be an underdog in doing such.

But like you said, Iowa themselves is a rather huge underdog to win ALL of their next four games, so chances are Iowa will not be in the title game.

Perhaps this week at Oklahoma State.

They also have to play at AM and host Kansas.............plus the title game of the BIG 12.

This is why AT THIS TIME, Texas is NOT a favorite to go undefeated.

Now, if ALA or FLA remain undefeated, as well as TEXAS and IOWA.................IOWA would in all liklihood NOT make the title game.

Well you did clarify it, but what I'm saying is if an undefeated Iowa team would not make it against an undefeated Texas or SEC team. It's also possible a 1 loss SEC team could jump them due to the SEC title game giving them an additional boost similar to LSU making it with 2 losses.

Either way until the PAC 10 and BIG 10 add a title game they are going to lose out to conferences who play them.

And your post above is what I was saying..
    So we do agree.

Now if The BIG 10 had a title game and they won it, along with Texas and an SEC team going undefeated, someone would be very pissed and then you could also have Boise/Cinci/TCU all having a case but not as strong.

I just cannot see ANY one loss team in America keeping Iowa out of the title game if indeed Iowa goes undefeated.

But as reported earlier, Iowa could certainly go undefeated and NOT play in the title game, with the BIG THREE of ALABAMA, FLORIDA, and TEXAS posing the most if not all of those scenarios. I don't think an undefeated Boise State, TCU, or Cincy team would go ahead of an undefeated Iowa club..........but it could be close. A lot could depend on how some of Iowa's opponents fare down the stretch, mainly the likes of Arizona, Iowa State, Penn State, and Wisconsin.

You think Boise State fans are crying now, what if Oregon goes out and defeats USC by 14 or more points and moves ahead of them in some polls???

Actually, a big win by Oregaon is precisely what Boise State needs this week to keep their title hopes alive.

If Oregon wins this weekend, Boise State will move up in the BCS rankings, possibly ahead of more then just USC.

I for one hope that some combination of Iowa, TCU, Boise, Texas, USC, Cincinatti, Oregon, Georgia Tech, or Penn State make the BCS title game and the SEC is entirely left out.

The SEC may have two great teams but overall, it is completely overrated and any of the above teams could be competitive and/or beat Florida or Alabama. These two teams have only have one quality win each and have as ridiculous a non-conference schedule as anyone...plus I'm just tired of hearing about them.

The SEC has earned their respect in the past few years......but your right, probably overrated this season.

In the history of CFB, no conference comes close to the greatness that is the BIG TEN.
