Trophy Rules for the Poster of the Year contest (23,000 points at stake?)

Let's discuss the rules for voting so the process can be as accurate as possible. SBR John is talking about huge prizes so I think everyone should be interested:

    3rd 3000
    4th 2000
    5th 1000
    6th 500
    http://forum.sbrforum.com/players-talk/248069-2008-poster-year-voting-look-back.html

Here's how it was done last year:

It started with a thread where people nominated the posters of the year (these are the manual votes):

    http://forum.sbrforum.com/players-talk/130974-vote-posters-year.html

Then the nominees for poster of the year were split into groups of 21 (the max amount allowed for a poll) and everybody voted on the best posters from each group (these are the automated votes):

    http://forum.sbrforum.com/players-talk/131706-vote-posters-year-group.html

Last year everything stopped with the automated votes phase, this year we'd continue on and do a sweet 16 bracket style contest. In this contest, we'd take the top 16 from the first two rounds of voting and the #1 rated poster would get the #1 seed and take on the #16 rated poster would get the 16th seed and so on. If we would have done this last year, these would have been the first round match-ups:

    1 jjgold v. 16 Richkas
    2 tsoprano v. 15 Justin7
    3 Nicky Santoro v. 14 FiveTeamer
    4 Bread v. 13 AMBlai01
    5 LT Profits v. 12 diogee
    6 tacomax v. 11 BetPlom
    7 VegasDave v. 10 Ganchrow
    8 rogue juror v. 9 Robyn

Last year we had two rules:

    1. Only posters with 500 posts or more could vote.
    2. You couldn't vote for yourself.

If the poster of the year award is going to be an official SBR thing, I think the following suggestion may be a lot better idea than barring anyone who has less than 500 posts from voting (as I'm sure SBR doesn't want to exclude anyone):

Quote Originally Posted by pavyracer View Post

    eg. 500 posts is 1 vote X 0.5 = 0.5
    5000 posts is 1 vote X 5 = 5

    etc
BTW, I've decided that if SBR is giving out points as prizes for this I'm not doing it. As soon as points are involved with this people will go nuts.

If there's no points involved with the contest and no one else wants to do it, I'll do it.

But, even without points some people were flipping out about the award. We had to change the rules several times but we got it right in the end. Here's an example (this is right on the money but there was tons of stress and work for me):

posters i have never heard of before, have 29 votes.. lol

tons of posters that had only 2 votes after 24 hrs, now have 28-36 votes.. 3 posters had 1 vote and 2 hrs later had 25 votes..

there are 4 posters i know of that had 2 votes at noon yesterday, and by 7 pm, they had over 25 votes.. lol

I love it.. it's actually cute.. i can't believe posters would go through all that work to just have more votes. i know off hand 12 posters who i can put my whole mortgage, and life savings that have cheated.. i won't mention who, but we know, jj.. jj, my hand to god, i did NOT cheat at all. my votes were legitimate, not even 1 vote of mine was cheated.. and i'm sure so were yours..

i just want to say that of my 27 votes of you actual posters that voted for me,, i really wanna say thank you and i appreciate it, cause i swear to god, i did NOT create any fake accts..

I think it would be more interesting to discuss how you were a SBR Points bookie and stiffed your players. But maybe it's just me.

People might think that it might be too hard to place in the top 16 but if you look at the list, I would expect there will be several open spots available. I think the bolded posters will fall out of the sweet 16:

    1 jjgold v. 16 Richkas
    2 tsoprano v. 15 Justin7
    3 Nicky Santoro v. 14 FiveTeamer
    4 Bread v. 13 AMBlai01
    5 LT Profits v. 12 diogee
    6 tacomax v. 11 BetPlom
    7 VegasDave v. 10 Ganchrow
    8 rogue juror v. 9 Robyn

There should be at least 9 new spots available in the sweet 16 with 23,000 points possibly at stake. This could be one of the biggest, most popular contests ever.

I didn't stiff anyone. Why do you keep lying about that? Also, this "update" was 100% wrong and you never rescinded it:

Further Complaints Received Concerning Fearless Sportsbook

In breaking news in the Fearless Sportsbook scandal, we have received a further complaint by another member of our community.

The player in question accused Fearless Sportsbook of a no pay over a grading issue where the player placed a bet which ended in a tie. Industry wide rules in the SBR Point Bookie world dictate that ties are graded as pushes and the bet is returned; however Fearless Sportsbook seem to grade ties as losses.

We will update when we receive further news on this latest scandal which is certain to have lasting repercussions in the SBR Point Bookie industry.

Players are not only urged to avoid this scam operation but to be wary of any future Sportsbooks opened under any alter egos. We especially urge players to be wary of Rainbow World Sports and Butt Plug Sports International.

We're talking about a possibility of 23,000 points in prizes and there's no interest?

I don't know anything about poster of the year. I didn't know there was one last year. I wouldn't be considered so I have little interest. Just curious to see who wins though.

As the top points bookie at SBR you could easily make the sweet 16, imho.

This is everybody's chance to offer input about the rules. Nobody should complain about the rules later if they don't like them. This is the time to speak up about it.

This isn't about me, IMHO, SBR has no idea what kind of a pandora's box will be opened if they don't get the rules right before the voting starts. Personally, I like pavyracer's idea:

As for me, anyone who posts in this thread will be taken off ignore for the duration of the thread.

Furthermore, I'd recommend that anyone who has less than say 100 posts should be barred from voting. Everybody who's interested in this should read what Nicky Santoro posted, it's an accurate description of what was going on in the first phase of manual voting - before we put in the rule that 500 posts were required to vote - (particularly the bolded part, I had the same suspicion at the time):

Post count should equal voting power.

With the point system this kind of pandering for votes could go to a whole new level. SBR will have to police this, no one else can do it.

I just got an idea about how to do the voting.

Everyone gets electoral votes to work with. To determine how many electoral votes you get, take your number of posts and divide it by 100.

If you have 5,000 posts, you get 50 electoral votes. You could give all 50 votes to one poster or you can use those votes to nominate up to 50 different posters (50 posters get one vote each). Or you could use 10 electoral votes each for 5 different posters, etc. etc.

I'll simply count the votes and we'll determine poster of the year.

This will really make each experienced poster powerful in the voting process (as they should be) and if this type of voting works we may be able to cut out the middle stage (when posters are put into groups of 21) and go directly to the sweet 16 phase.

Why stop at POY. Blast this fukker wide open. Academy Awards my ass.
Best Avatar. Best Late-Night poster. Most Illiterate poster. Best Tout. Fewest Words-per-Post-Average poster. Biggest Duchebag poster. Best Right-Wing, Left-Wing poster. Best Computer-Savy poster. A virtual cornucopia.
I think we should cap it at 100 awards, not counting sub-categories.

We did best and worst handicapper last year (how could you miss those?). Why don't you choose one of those that you mentioned and you can run the poll, we can test run the electoral vote idea, no need to wait, let's do it now.

We should just call it the SBR Fearless Posters of The Year. It would be better if Fearless took this bull by the horns, right?

Set it up Fearless. Maybe the top eight should get the two story wise guy suites at the Golden Nugget plus a long azz black stretch limo (very wise guy) for the SBR Bash???

If there won't be any point prizes involved then I'll do it.
It will be two rounds only (nomination round + sweet 16 round), nice and simple, we'll start at the beginning of November.

I think for the sweet 16 competition the poster that gets votes from people with the most posts should be the winner. For example:

Poster A gets 20 votes from posters who have 50,000 total posts.

Poster B gets 15 votes from posters who have 55,000 total posts.

    Poster B should win, imho.

What does everyone think about that? It will eliminate cheating though ghosting completely, imho.

I hope I can win Poster of the Year this year or at least get close. Need those points

Plus, last year I was in early 100s and only posting for a month and half and in sub forums, now I've been in Players Talk all year and made big impact on the posting world
