Default How Does A Book Decipher If Your Sharp?

I mean how do they know?? Do you get on a lucky streak and then they boot you or cut your limits??

Do you beat the moves and then they boot you or cut your limit?

You can just be guessing right before the line changes and get labeled as sharp

I guess the easiest way would be for the book to detect a pattern in your playing habit. I guess first things first, you'd have to define what a sharp is. So I think we can sit here and say a sharp is an individual who bets dogs much more than the recreational bettor, is able to identify steam and other unnatural line movement, bets against the public, doesn't chase, and wins 57% or higher of their games over a consistent period. There are probably other characteristics but that's all I can think of for now.

If they are smart they would have their computers sort players by the distance of time between a bet and the line changes. Sportsnteraction must be too lazy to look at the wager activity because they let their gamblers win 15 dimes before they bother looking at them and probably kick out good players who got lucky. MyBookie has everyone fingerd as sharp until they put in their first 18 team parlay.

Actually they compare the lines that a player got to the closing line. If the player is almost always playing a better number than the closing number than he is sharp.

The smart books don't wait for you to beat them. If they see you getting good numbers, they will boot you.

Once I was at VIP and the GM Mike pulled up the top winners list for whatever year it was and I think the year was less than 1/2 over. They had tons of players up from $80k on down. He told me if guys pick their own games playing painted numbers and win they can play here for ever because we will always hold the 11-10 advantage.

But if they are getting the better number and beating us at our own game then we no longer have an 11-10 advantage. He explained that they give so much away in rewards and bonuses and free transfers that they have to hold an 11-10 advantage.

Thats were I remember the How does a book determine if you are sharp. they compare the closing number to the numbers the player got. If the player is always getting the best of it then VIP feels they no longer have the 11-10 advantage.

You got it in one, marc.

It's like card counting at blackjack. You go to Vegas and, after a few big bets at strategic times, the casino identifies you as a card counter.

You might be $10K down but the casino will still throw you out - you're card counting, you've got a player edge of, say, 5% - in the long run you're always going to be a winner.

Similarly if a book can identify that you're sharp, they'll boot you out whether you're winning or losing.

Just once instead of receiving an elaborate basket of cheese, wine and yuppie crap on Christmas I would like to receive a letter telling me I'm too sharp and could I please leave. Just once...

I am sure it is real easy to spot a sharp the numbers don't lie.

To boot a depositing customer takes some balls but a sharp customer can unbalance the books in a hurry !

If the lines you take are consistently the "best" lines. If you avoid low expectation plays. If you consistently take the moneyline. If you avoid high vig plays like parlays and teasers. If your plays come in right as a line moves. If you consistently hedge one bet with a correlated bet.

It's good to have "talent" play your office. Unless you are brain dead, you are only going to get hit once at "the number". The followers will pass the move, and the suckers lay the "bad number". I always moved with the wiseguys, and put them against the rest of the business. If you have a few slow "outs", you can hedge the bet at the right number, and book all the suckers. I would never chase a wiseguy, just keep an eye on him.

thats total bullshit IMO, I can get you great numbers every day but I always end up losing the game in the long run. Thats why capping the game and pounding the early lines are the way to go. If you have to wait and play lines on gameday then you're gonna get ****ed IMO

I'm clueless pal? ****ing call me when you see me down! Beating the number will take care of itself more than likely if you get off your ass and cap the game and pound the early line

how many plays do I need for you to consider me not running hot? Its called being knowledgable toolbox. Onner, not my fault that the "sharps" around here call me clueless or whatever when I'm up big in college football and college basketball (the only sports I bet consistently)
