I get mine done every 3 months and it has been the same for 2 years now. 110/60. I don't take any blood pressure medication either.

Archie,
Cut down on the salt, pork, OTC cold meds, cigarettes. All will raise your blood pressure. Drop a few lbs. Get a little exercise. And maybe you can stay off BP meds...

Cholesterol is both diet and genetics...maybe you've just got great genetics! If so, thank your Mom and Dad...

I sell a bp med...if you need to go on one I'd recommend lisinopril first (cheap and low side effects)...if you don't get adequate control or suffer from side effects (most common is a bad cough), i'd recommend a class of meds called ARBs...whichever is preferred on your insurance as they are branded. If those don't work, you'll probably need a second med or a combo pill.

First try to exercise more and lose some weight. Your systolic bp (the top number) is pretty good, but the bottom number is too high. I assume you're probably in your 30s/40s??

Salt is a common misconception - only certain populations actually respond adversely long term to salt. Weight and exercise are the biggest things you can do to drop your bp.

As for cholesterol - 90% is actually genetics. Most cholesterol in our blood is actually produced in the liver and not in the food we eat. Your body actually needs dietary cholesterol to produce testosterone (good thing!). If you have high cholesterol, you will need a statin 90% of the time - diet and exercise will not be enough. As an example, my wife is a vegetarian and not overweight yet has much higher cholesterol than me, who eats red meat like its going out of style and is 10-15 lbs overweight!

probably 320mg? Diovan is an ARB - i used to sell one of its competitors, Benicar but now sell another med. Diovan is good, but some need to take it 2xday.

Yes, 320. Sorry.

For the past few days I have taken 4-6 a day and it didn't touch my BP. Everything stayed the same. (Actually worse). I don't know what is going on.

I had a sudden drop last night to 100/60 and it was not pleasant. Profuse sweating, dizzy, cold chills and vomiting. My cook works in Dialysis and she knew what to do or I would have been in the hospital.

Plendil huh? wow...don't see too many RX of that around. Mostly amlodipine (Norvasc) in that class. Big problem with those meds is they cause swelling in the ankles too.

Deuce, were you on carvedilol (coreg?) That causes orthostatic hypotension (dizziness when you stand up)

No, I have no clue. Something small with a long name. I haven't taken it in a few months. I just needed to stop smoking and it went down.

Thanks. The ER doc diagnosed it as stress related and gave me an injection of ativan and that brought it down to normal so I have to believe it is anxiety. I thought the anxiety was caused by my worry over high BP, but opposite from the tests. I got a script of anxiety meds, but need to go work with family doc next week. They also did a chest xray and that looked good as well at the hospital.

I appreciate it, win. I am just sharing my story here. Since October as the dates indicate, The BP has been up and down for months now. I have been working late shift the last 2 weeks and not resting as well as I would like. I am going to lie down with the cook here in a few. She is off tomorrow usually has to get up at 6 AM and get ready for work.
