    Default Changes coming to SBR

After Oct 13th we mentioned we would be taking further steps to comply with US law as well as other countries that threaten to block our ability to publish content in their countries.

In the near future US and Chinese citizens will have their IP's identified by SBR servers and directed to content acceptable to the governments of those countries. More countries will be added as we learn their laws.

Everyone will see the same forum, same lines and same reviews and ratings. But if you are a citizen of China or the USA you will not see any gaming ads. You will see ads , but not gaming ads.

All visitors will see the same content. Thats the key. Its like we are dealing dual lines. The US line set will not have any gaming ads, links, contact info, ect., while the international one will.

I know some will criticize the move. But at SBR we are family and protecting the careers of those that have worked so hard is one of the primary concerns.

The saddest part of all about SBR John's post is that China and America are being talked about in the same breath!

I know, how freakin' ironic. I would be willing to take off from work to march against this crap somehow.

    John,

I fully understand where you are coming from on this, I think you might be able to get like horse racing ads from the United States like from the Daily Racing Form, or Brisnet or something like that. Thanks giving us information on this.

I respect the fact SBR is trying to protect everyone that is working for them. If the content is not different, then there is no real problem with it in my eyes. Good move John.

Default Don't really understand the move

The law has to do with funds transfer, not advertising. Obviously SBR is not a funds transfer service. None of the ads on SBR are for fund transfer services.

If a journalist wants to write about Las Vegas casinos, he/she may do so anywhere in the United States, even in those States that do not allow casinos.

So why can't SBR advertise online casinos, that Americans can certainly legally use when on trips overseas in the future.

Maybe when you live in the Soviet States of America you have to be careful of everything even if it is not against the law. Very sad.

We do have one Las Vegas casino that will hopefully advertise with us. But even then the proposed advertisement will be about rooms and airfare specials, not the casino aspect.

It starts with a "W". I don't want to mention any names. They have been looking over the site and with my luck I will mention a name and JJ will come in and say they suck.

Guys SBR is making the change because SBR-John was one step away from prison, basically feds got him in the office and gave him a choice and of course he had to do this.

How long would he serve? all of us posters would visit him just like we did with Cohen. he'd probably actually be happier in the pen since he could get action down fairly easy

This whole thing is odd. It sounds like the US GOVT is putting the responsibility of filtering content on the providers which is really ****** up. The GOVT could easily censor this content from the US, but that sort of censorship would be challenged and would never be permitted. So in typical weasel fashion, they take the route of threatening content providers.

It appears nobody in the industry is willing to take a stand for fear of getting hammered. What a sad day this is.

The power of the US Govt is really impressive at times. Illegal Immigrants should take notice, if they are ever targeted like this look out. The idea that illegal immigration is unstoppable is bullshit.....they have just chosen not to thus far (just like offshore betting).

Thanks guys for thinking of me.

You know it could all happen but I'm not one to borrow trouble or chase ghosts.

We have never been contacted in any way. But we did hire lawyers to recommend changes so we can assure that our content continues to be published going forward. I guess if we did anything wrong in the past we will take our lumps and I cant control that now. I think we can control the future and thats the goal. SBR has some really great content coming out and a great team behind it so we wont chance having our content restricted.

    Default Changes coming to SBR

    Hi,

Been lurking a while, but looking at this post, it solidifies that fact that SBR is obviously bankrolled by a group of gaming companies, who get an easy ride.

If SBR wasn't bankrolled like this - we wouldn;t see this message - or am I wrong?

    Regards,

    LC

I would think PowerBall and/or state-sponsored riverboat casinos might be excellent prosepects for additional ad revenue.

L1amCasey - I would consider your comments if you didn't work for SIA. Are you saying that SBR are making up stories of your slow-pays and no-pays? I always find that it's a good idea to make sure that your own house is in order before criticising someone else's.

    John,

I want to thank you and all your staff for watching out for all of us and I hope that continues with your grading of these books and how solid that they are. I feel you are doing the right thing here and I hope that you can give us some ideas on how we can do things to make it so it is easier. I have several ideas that would work but I would not like to say it in the forum though before I say it to the Admistrators and see if it works or not.

Why the same for Chinese citizen too? I don't think the Chinese government are going after the gambling sites, are they?

I think is a smart move. If I was in the position would likely do that same. John built a great company that has done really well. No reason to risk even the smallest risk of jail in this crazy environment. Hopefully this doesn't affects SBRs future prospects going forward, but either way, likely way it has to be.

That's classic...Perhaps this is the start of a new age alliance between the USA and China. First get together on making online gambling the most evil of all sins, then move onto something else like maybe partitioning Iraq.
