i think you have it backwards. that was the case back in the late 80's, early 90's.. now it's all defence.. teams don't try to score anymore. all teams want to do is hold a 2-1 lead by chewing up the clock and not score..
hockey used to be good, but because of this, it's now shit.

Nicky so many games are 2-1, 1-1, 2-0 after 1st period now
Years ago most were 1-0 or 0-0
Nicky they play with no heart anymore, all players more worried about getting laid by groupies and drinking.

When they try to open the game up (no two line pass, 4 on 4 overtime, more penalties for grabbing) they **** it up with ridiculous goalie equipment and giving points to teams when they don't win.

Absence of black players is what killed hockey. All major sports have blacks dominating.

There are more goals because players are faster, younger, stronger. Simple as that. Small rule changes here and there have also been created to open the game up more and encourage more scoring. That is not a bad thing.
The days of New Jersey 1-0 shutdown hockey are over ... Thank **** for that.

overs off to a decent start, but don't let that fool you.. just like every year, you just wait till a weekend in Jan or Feb when on a sat, the unders go 12-2 and the grand salami goes 27 goals under the total with all 2-1, 1-0 and 3-1 games across. then you'll be the late sat night game over thinking it's due and that game ends 2-1 in a shoot out..
then the next day on SUN you bet every over thinking they are due to explod with goals and guess what, unders go 6-0.. and the unders continue to clean up the next 4 days going 18-6 and now your great start of overs are down the drain..
this happens every year, like clockwork. ever since i started betting hockey way back then, it never changes...there's always that 1 to 2 week period where no one scores in the NHL and unders go on a 74-24 run.. NO JOKE..
don't get too excited yet about this decent overs start.. The NHL will go through a very under period.. when, i don't know.. but expect it..

Everything goes in cycles, but overall I think goals are going to be up this year from last.

fair enough of a prediction... but i will make my prediction.. even if goals do go up, all that will do is that books will adjust the totals.. so if goals go up by a half goal a game, totals will go from 5.5 to 6, that's all.. whereas at the end, my prediction is that overs and unders will end very very close to 50%, maybe 48%, maybe 52%, maybe 47%, maybe 53%, but they will end up very close to 50% on unders and overs.. thus, turning every -110 bettor into a loser at the end no matter if they bet overs or unders..
there's no way around it..
