Default What does everyone think of Sagarin's ratings in the NFL right now? Denver #1

Here are all the 3-0 teams in Sagarain's ratings. How would you adjust the order if it was up to you?

    1 Denver Broncos = 27.37 3 0 0 19.15( 19) 0 0 0 | 1 0 0 | 27.76 4 | 27.06 2
    2 New Orleans Saints = 27.36 3 0 0 20.20( 16) 1 0 0 | 1 0 0 | 26.14 6 | 29.25 1
    3 Indianapolis Colts = 26.87 3 0 0 18.89( 21) 0 0 0 | 0 0 0 | 28.41 2 | 25.79 5
    4 Baltimore Ravens = 26.85 3 0 0 16.30( 32) 0 0 0 | 1 0 0 | 27.88 3 | 26.07 4
    5 Minnesota Vikings = 26.74 3 0 0 20.46( 14) 1 0 0 | 1 0 0 | 28.84 1 | 25.40 6
    6 New York Giants = 26.52 3 0 0 18.09( 24) 0 0 0 | 1 0 0 | 26.33 5 | 26.77 3
    7 New York Jets = 24.58 3 0 0 17.72( 26) 1 0 0 | 1 0 0 | 24.26 8 | 24.97 7

Sagarin ratings are a good starting point, but this shows some of the problems they have... Sagarin bases his ratings on one stat only: score (or win/loss depending on which predictor you use).

    Top 7 only because 3-0

    1 Giants
    2 Ravens
    3 Saints
    4 Vikings
    5 Colts
    6 Jets
    7 Broncos ** (ONLY because 3-0)

Records aside Top Tier title contenders

    Patriots
    Steelers ** (1-2)

Only because they are 2-1 and all seem equal to me

    Eagles
    Falcons
    Bears
    Niners
    Packers
    Chargers

Just look back to Arizona last year. There is so much to happen before we can really rationalize the real Top 4 teams. It's way to early to think we know for sure. I still believe that New England and Minnesota are the best by seasons end assuming their stars are in place.

In CFB, Sagarin has IOWA #1 in the segment he sends to the BCS for determining the championship game and various BCS bowls.

Iowa opponents to date are 12-0 against teams other than Iowa..................they will drop out of the top five for sure after their game with Arkansas State this week, win or lose.

At present, Iowa also as the second longest winning streak in the nation at EIGHT games.

Based on 3 games, here's my list going into week 4.

    1. Ravens
    2. Giants
    3. Jets
    4. Vikings
    5. Colts
    6. Saints
    7. Broncos

Almost a complete flip flop for me versus Saccharine.

But, if I'm allowed to ignore the records and results through week 3, I'd still have the power favorites at the top of my list: Pats, Steelers, Chargers. The cream will rise to the top as the season goes forward. Also, watch out for the Eagles if McNabb gets well.

    useless.. watch the games

    stats tell nothing

Dallas will dominate Denver in the trenches.. they'll waste Bailey on Williams.. Buy the Cowboys down to 2.5 and be glad the books really think Orton and a rookie coach will hang with a billion dollar empire..

jets or the broncos wouldn't even be in my top 7, only because i know they wont be there in the future.

    lol at denver #1

giants, philly, vikings, bears, saints, falcons, 49ers, chargers, colts, titans, ravens, steelers, jets, patriots are all better than denver

denver will be about 8-8 when it's all said and done...9-7 if they are lucky and that's cause their division is maybe the worst in football (although NFC west is garbage too)

there is no way iowa is the best team in college football. it sounds like they may be a great team to fade in the very near future.

I completely disagree. While I'm not sold on Kyle Orton yet, I'd really don't think the Cowboy's an elite team. Denver is offensively capable of beating Dallas, since the Cowboys defense isn't nothing special to worry about. If the Denver D is what they really are, giving up only 17 points in 3 games, then I don't see why they can't beat choker Romo at home.

I know this is not an Iowa thread, but last year they lost thier 4 games by a combined 15 points I think, or less. And this year the defense is right where it left off giving up under 12 ppg. Look for them to go undefeated up until they face Ohio State. We could easily see them in a BCS game this year.

hard not to like the jets beating three pretty solid teams, watch out if they beat the saints.

Why do people bitch about Sagarin ratings this early in the season - by the time the teams all get linked the best will be at the top as always. From about week 8/9 they'll be pretty much spot on as always.
