Default Why the Chargers are the play

I know it's easy for a lot of you to pick the Pats in this game based solely on the QB matchup Brady vs Rivers or even the coaching Belichick over Shittenheimer

It's a very trendy way to go and it might possibly make you money but realize that football is played with 11 players on each side and the QB and coach can only do so much.

Realize the CHARGERS ARE FOR REAL
Chargers were 6 points away from ending the season undefeated.
They went 14-2 and the two games they lost were by only 3 points..

Week 4: Lost to Baltimore 13-16 (Ravens won the game in the final secs)
    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/recap/NFL_20061001_SD@BAL

Week 7: Lost to Kansas City 27-30 (Chiefs won game in final secs)
    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/recap/NFL_20061022_SD@KC

    10-0 since..

Chargers have nothing but studs on their defense
Shawn Merriman 17 Sacks in 12 games
Shaun Phillips 11.5 Sacks in 14 games
Luis Castillo 7 sacks in 10 games
Donnie Edwards 141 Tackles 2.5 Sacks 3 INTs

among many other players who make up this absolutely ferocious Defense.

    BRADY is NOT Mobile
Keep in mind Brady is not a mobile QB and I'm expecting him to be sacked a lot in this game personally. Pats have a solid O-Line but the Chargers pass rush is unstoppable especially @ Home..

Not the same Patriots of years past
This is not the same New England team of the years past. Similar but defintely not as intimidating..

    8-0 @ Home this season

I've watched every Chargers game this season and believe me they are for real!!!!

Believe the Chargers are going to make people realize how good they really are this week especially with the extra week to prepare!!

Chargers have the better running game are at home with an extra week to prepare.. HMM Believe I'll take the Chargers in here!!

Public loves Brady and Belichick so I don't know where this line is going..

But you are pretty good at these line moves... Nice call predicting Eagles -6.5

    100% with you IMGV.

I can't remember a better team in at least the last ten years. They caught lightning in a bottle in SD this year, and it's called the Turbo Chargers.

Hope for right IMG but the line scares me. I think it should be a lot more, maybe -7.5. Lets just hope Martyball doesn't appears in the playoffs. Plus I have eight AFC Championship tickets.

All you have to do is put a little pressure on Brady and he will fold. It will be a sack fest in San Diego and there is no way way NE will run the ball.

I'm not disputing the Chargers are a terrific team, but they are no means a dominant football team. Look at their results this season. They won a bunch of games with comebacks/last second plays. They could easily be 11-5 or 12-4. I just don't think they are a typical 14-2 team.

I like Marty S. as a coach and think he's gotten a bad rep in some of these playoff losses, except for the one 2 years ago against the Jets. That was lousy coaching to play for a 42-yard FG with a rookie kicker.

There is no way any Wade Phillips defense will slow the Patriots down. SD will need to score 20-plus to win this game. The Pats are likely looking at the Cinci game, since they ran right through that defense (granted without a couple key guys).

Seattle Slew I'm serious here bro, SD is going to score between 31-40 points in here..

I watched every SD game this season and they played so cocky. They would fall behind and just know they were good enough to come back..

SD might not cover, not completely convinced but they will win this game!!

    imgv,

I agree with you with San Deigo, I think they have an excellent chance of beating New England this weekend, they beat them last season pretty bad so they know how to beat New England just like Denver does. San Deigos defense is the key to this game and if Brady gets alot of pressure put on him from San Deigos front four it could be a long game for him. San Deigos rushing offense is so strong that New England may not be able to stop them, remember this isn't the Jets this is one of the best rushing offenses in the league you are playing. I do give San Deigo the edge even with Marty as coach, I think Marty has learned from teams in the past and he will have them ready to play New England this weekend. I agree that San Diego could possibly score between 25 and 35 because New England hasn't faced an offense like this in a while.

I think SD is the sharp side in this game.....Lot of technical trends point to SD in this matchup.

Media are hyping Pats. And probably a larger chunk of the public jumping on board for the playoffs. Pats can play a nice game here and there, but they would need a miracle to beat SD. Miracles happen. I know. That's why they call it gambling. But this line should be at least a TD.

SD has been lights out all season. In games they should have lost in Cincy and Denver they wiped out huge deficits in no time. They can step it up big time when they have to! The last few weeks they just didn't have to, and public memory is short.

SD outplayed Baltimore in Baltimore for 55 minutes. They gave it away in what turned out to be the final sighting of Martyball. That was a one time deal for the Ravens. They lucked out on a prayer. Not the type of lingering memory you want to take into San Diego.

Chargers basically destroyed Denver's season and forced the QB change.

SD also had the Bengals in desperation after winning there.

They've crushed dreams all season. And now the Patriots, only a shadow of the past, come into town on a positive vibe after beating the mighty Jets... lol

On any given day anything is possible. That said, there has been only one dominant team in the NFL this season, a season marked by unprecedented inconsistency across the board. SD is the constant. SD is dominant. They're like wild animals in a league of tame ones.

Why do people think that the PUBLIC wrong? Is t wrong to be a public? Does someone have to be sharp to cash a ticket?

If you go back three years, New England is 19-7 ATS, so they are by no means a PUBLIC team anyways.

This year, they are 7-1 ATS on the road (with the big loss coming at Miami)

They score 4 more points than their opponents allow

The allow 6 less points than their opponents score

... and they are getting more than a FG when we all know that Marty will win by a FG if he's ever given the chance.

Capping often creates anti social jerks, who only respect other sharp cappers (in their opinion). They also tend to get carried away.
Lots of good examples on this board too

Simon Noble of Pinnacle said it best:

A sharp capper is the one who gets the BEST line.

(yet people think it's the guy who has a great winning percentage ... or better yet, a guy who is a part of a SYNDICATE)

That road record included one team that made it to the playoffs. The Jets.

You see a great road record. I see a team that hasn't been battle-tested, and that has a far too easy time reaching the playoffs in the first place.

The Chargers are not only the best team in the NFL this season, they may be the best team in the NFL since, ironically, the 49ers team that beat them in the '94 Super Bowl.
I still think they can very easily get beat in this game. I don't think the points will matter. Either NE wins outright or the Chargers cover, IMO. For that reason, I think the two bad plays are New England +5 and SD moneyline.

think Brady gets alot aof heat for Sd front four. This may lead to some rushed plays and turn overs. i love Sd in this one too!
